[Mk2] [NA] Immobiliser, Alarm & Central locking questions and problems

Post by TheBaker »

I have problems with both, it's how they were when I bought the car.

I'll start with the Immobiliser, I have a plugin one, it plugs into a hole as you can see in the pics below. I did a big search last night and didn't find any information on this here, as if I'm the only one that has it but surely not. Also is this the original key? Image

Most people are saying it's weird considering it pretty much is an Audio Jack. It says Scimitar on it, not much pulled from google on that except about a "Scimitar xj3 jackplug immobiliser".

The issue with the Imob is that it has to go into a certain position(based on the plastic part) into the hole or when I turn on the car the horn goes on and the car doesn't start. Is the horn meant to go on? I searched all the threads last night and some people said the horn doesn't go off if it's immobilised.. If that's correct is there anyway to unwire that, it's pretty embarassing if it decides not to go off and I've got to play with the key to get it to stop the horn going off..

I think it might be a security measure done by the past owners as similar to what might be the case with the alarm..

(The key must be positioned at a certain angle or it beeps, it beeps if you knock it aswell, maybe the key needs a clean??)

The alarm issue, or central locking issue is that the car has to be opened from the passengers side, otherwise if opened by the drivers side, the alarm goes off and the car wont run until you lock it back up and open from the drivers side first. The guy I bought it off said it was a security thing, it does make it quite secure I guess but still it's damn annoying and I'd rather it just opened and worked properly from the drivers door.

Is this something I can fix myself, eg disable the Immobiliser or should I take it to a specialist. Eventually I will get a new system but I don't have the money with fixing the rest of the car right now.

:(

Any help is appreciated. :)

Thanks.

if the immobiliser is a cat1 device, it's tied into ignition, fuel pump & probably a couple of other things too, so unless you're confident that you know what you're doing, then i'd take it to a professional.
i lost the chip to mine, which was an aftermarket addition, on the car when i bought it, cost me £80 to get disconnected.
a toyota sales assistant did tell me how to do it if it wasn't a cat1, but it was a few years ago now so the details are a little sketchy, but i remember he said it was pretty easy, so i'm guessing it's not an expensive job.
thankfully i rang my mechanic to check what i was doing & he told me it was a cat1 & to keep my hands well & truly away from it, so...
i don't know if that helps any, but to be honest, i've never heard of a security sytem like the 1 you're describing (drivers side door etc).
i'm no expert, but your toyota security system is an embedded chip in your ignition key (that much i'm sure of). if i unlock the car without using the central locking key fob, when i start the car, the hazards flash at double time. thats it, no drama involving opening this door or that.
someone with more knowledge than me may say different, but personally it all sounds a little odd to me & i'd get the whole security system checked out if i were you.

Thanks for the reply.

Can someone(with a rev2 UK NA ideally) tell me if the immobiliser key I have is actually the original one, my mate says someone has just added that to it but I don't know. No manual with the car or info about it.

Thanks.

Hi Mate

You have what the trade used to describe as a AUTOJACK immobilisor
Manufactured in Newcastle
Till they wanted to get bigger and got money from the government
and did not invest it in the Company so they shut them down

Well that is what i got told ond GOOD info

U will have problems as the Chrome is wearing off and will no longer transmit its code

It was a commont type of immobilisor Foxguard did one of these also as well as many big companys it was the best technology at that time

Best to get rid asap or you will be IMMOBILISED soon

Regards Ian

Oh and by the way i fitted these in the early days
