AFR's coolant/bad "water injection"

Post by Dale_V »

Last week I found that my st205cc core was leaking internally the coolant down the core, into the inlet and obviously into the cylinders, a new core is needed, but my question is... what would this unwanted coolant be doing to the AFR's? noticably leaning it out??

Cheers

just wondering how do you get a leak in the ST205 core without something flying through the intake and damaging it??

I would like to know too.... unless it was already damaged when I bought it! Since finding i've had the leak ive not run the car, but when it was running it was fine, no issues at all! The only reason I discovered the problem is that I was bored and was pulling the spark plugs out to see how they were doing... they had NO coating other than a red tint to it, which made me pull the core off and noticed nice red coolant dripping down the core into the inlet....

liquid cannot be compressed in a cylinder. so if you keep driving it chances are you will blow the gasket as that is the weakest thing, or hole a piston or worse case crack the block.

if you still need to drive the car, drain the CC completley and turn the pump off for the CC coolant.

IF you really did have a split in the core the boost would be presurising the the CC water ways I would think though and the coolant woul donly reach the inlet off boost....

the car hasnt been driven since, it needs a new core like has been said in the first post.

anyone any ideas of what the coolant would do to the AFR's?

If the engine ran ok then you could not have had too much water getting in and there would not have been much of a change to the AFR.

If it is a Rev 2 it would balance out, if a Rev 3 it may have run a bit rich

cheers bob, just what i wanted to know. I dont think the leak was too bad, certainly not enough to notice a coolant drop, but visable dripping down the core, so bad enough :eye:

We have some spare charge coolers here if you are still looking for one.

There are some photos somewhere of a core cut open. I will see if I can find them.

well I think he did a better job of cutting that than I could wish to

Bob, why would a CC develop a leak, what are the options?
