[Mk2] [Turbo] burning sub

Post by LuizeGT »

not long ago installed a Vibe slick sub and Vibe monobox 4 amp into my 2.
i know its a high power amp but plans changed so im saving for a lesser amp.

ive kept the settings low on it so im not overpowering the sub but recently when ive got the sub on, (have it turned off when i have my daughter in car), ive had a terrible burning smell from it and had to turn the lot off.

is my amp killing it or is it something else? its been ok for the past 6 months

Its not a problem too have a powerful amp (you will do damage with too low a power amp) if you are getting a burning smell it is quite likely to be due to distortion if the gains are set wrong so I would advise you to get your amp set up with a scope , I had mine set up on an oscilliscope before the soundoff and was very surprised that the gain on my sub amp had to be set to 0 (I had it on 2.5 !) and my other amp at 2 but it sounds so much better now .
