you really have to be prepared to trial fit them, cut where necessary and have a big tin of fibreglass at hand, be prepared to put a few days worth of work in if they are a really bad fit,

this is why genuine cost more

when ever i get asked to fit skirts whatever the car /make first question i ask is are they genuine ! if they are not its gonna cost the customer more money for time to adjust fitment and correct . although i know someone with the ebay ones and they wasnt to bad to fit at all .

i've just had a bit of a mock up and i can't believe how much gap there is on the inside of the skirt,it seems crazy that there is nothing to fix the bottom of the skirt on with #-o

I had to use strips of metal bolted to the chassis to pull both ends of mine in. I think its a common problem on the cheaper ones anyway.

OK so - The first isssue i've encountered is that i can't believe there seems to be no way of stabalizing the bottom of the skirt, so inturn im guessing it's going to be really flimsy on the bottom ?
Also , the inside of the skirt is hollow which looks like it's just going to fill up with mud and all sorts crap whilst driving ?!
The lip of the skirt seems like it will slot into the door sill ok but there is no fixing for the rest of the sill ??

Any help would be grately received !

I just fitted some of these last week, mine came off a well known car on this forum so they went straight on, fitted perfectly they didnt have any Border markings though so cant be sure they are genuine.

Image

they have a strip which sits under the plastic door sill trim but also have a lip that tucks under the side vent panells and has one screw hole fixing just forward of the side vent into the sill itself.

I'll do some pics tomoro.

there is also 2 x fixing screws in the forward wheel arch and 2 in the rear arch. The lower hole is very close to the edge of the wing so care should be taken whilst drilling. I had to push mine in a little to ensure the drill didnt lance through the side of the wing.

Also yes you are correct in thinkin that the insides of the skirts being hollow will collect all sorts of road muck / roadkill i had to clean out all the s**te that was in there prior to handing them over to the bodyshop. They also catch loose stones / chippings etc had to do a fibreglass repair on both rear end caps as they had literally been shotblasted to peices by stones flying down the insides of the skirts.

You would have to order them from border japan, or iirc, border USA. but they are £££.. from japan , at a guess i would say your looking at £500 + shipped, and a long wait. dont know about from USA tho.

But they are worth it. i have the Full genuine border kit, bumper took 20 minutes to fit , perfect fit ,everything lines up all stock bolt hole locations etc etc. Trial fitted the skirts and it was the same with them, litterally 10 min a side to fit!!

Yea it will cost abit but worth it if you want the perfect fit. $819 from USA but need shipping added onto that.

Thanks mate, atm they're at my folks' house in Dorset, will be a week before i can get pics up, i was thinking about maybe making a bracket to fit behind the skirt ( so you wont see it ) which will fix onto the chassis, i think it going to have to be self tappers and some freestyle sh** ! lol
... Should i be a complete tool and buy the copy front bumper & spats now i have a third of the kit, 8-[ , in my mind if the copied skirts fit , which THEY WILL eventually lol then how can i justify spending loads more on originals when all it would require is me investing my time ( and my dads  ) and pletny of fiberglass ???

You'll probably end up having to blend it all in to the body to hide all the uneven panel gaps etc tehn the kit will not be removable without damage.

lol any good body shop should get these crap fitting kits to fit nicely with out spending a fortune definitely still less than original stuff, there was a 2nd hand original kit on here somewhere before and it was up for £1200 iirc.. so about £900 more than a ebay copy now if a bodyshop cant get it to fit nicely alot less than £900 then theres something seriously wrong lol.. Cant understand why people keep saying go for original as the price for original is ridiculous and once its fitted alongside a nicely fitted copy no one would know

They would, well I would anyway

I would have rather put my Smashed up Genuine Border bumper on BEFORE repairing it than fit the Border Replica bumper I saw!!

The lines and everything on it were just terrible and it was so thin that you could actually see shadows of things through it  . One side of it sagged right down, one sides indicator hole was on an angle and was 1.5cm too small height wise!! It had no where to fix the bumper to the wing. It was just terrible

having the same ive got ibk import body kit on mine and cant even remove the front bumper cos the guy before has done a bit of diy on it ,, and now im trying to fit the skirts they dont line up ,, gaps on the back arch and the edge of the skirts im having to drill throw seems to be bent and not meeting up flat along the sill of the car . plus is catchign on the door when i close it ,, gonna have to bend them on or cut them up ,,,

has anyone use a rivet gun fixing them to the car ????

Maybe i better go specsavers then as my copy fitted very well ok needed a tiny bit of fettling to get it spot on but on the whole really good and been parked next to so called genuine ones and saw no difference,, if the genuine kits were cheaper then could understand it but £1200 on a 2nd hand one is ridiculous give me a copy £900 over a 2nd hand genuine one anyday

I'm looking myself for a Border front and I found MadMotors, who have Border fronts (and assume side skirts, didn't check) from about 4 different manufacturers !

An Extreme Dimensions front for £249 and a few others, all the way down to a Poison Elf for only £145 !!!

I found some good things about Extreme Dimensions on the web.

Its worrying that there is such a price difference - I emailed them and got "we recommend all kits are fitted by a bodyshop .... " - b^&&s&^t reply !!
