[Mk2] [Turbo] PowerFC mapping in North East England

Hi ppl,

There is a company called PDTuning at Boldon, Tyne & Wear NE35 9LN where a guy called Dave is the mapper. The rolling road is a Dyno Dynamics and capable of handling 1200bhp.

He has quite a bit of experience on Apexi PowerFC's.

My car is on the rolling road on Saturday as it needs a remap since changing the exhaust and fitting WI kit.

Dave is prepared to rent out the rolling road for other mappers to use at £60 an hour (best check with him to confirm). Reason I say this is that I know a couple of people are wanting to get Ryan 2Bar tuning up here but the rolling road he has been using at XO Power Tuning has been moved to Cramlington and is not yet set up.

Hope this helps some of you out and I will keep you posted on my experiences with PDtuning.

Surprised Tony has'nt put a post on here with the results of the visit.

I wont say too much other than the place was immaculate, very professional looking and Dave the owner certainly knew his stuff, very knowledgable and does'nt mind passing on advice and information.

It was obvious they were not out to just take money off people ..... Sure Tony will explain why.

We are looking to run a rolling road/power run day up there in the very very near future.

Will need to get 10 cars which should'nt be a problem, graphs will show@

Dyno Dynamics setup, and a damm complex setup too, would seem Dyno Dynamics have gone out of their way with the setup to ensure that nobody can "cheat the figures", ie

Built in weather station (results printed on graph
WiFi connection to internet and Dyno Dynamics
And a load of other trick stuff

Certainly enjoyed the time there this morning and came away with some good information......will look forward to going back.

As Gtech mentions, a great venue for an RR day.

Dave and his assistant (forgot to ask his name) are very profrssional in their manner and setup. They have been in the premesis for 3.5 years and Dave has been tuning alot longer. His background was as a diagnostics engineer with Ford.

When I went to see Dave at the beginnig of the week I was convinced my car needed a remap as I felt I had seen a decline in the car's performance and since changing the exhaust and fitting the excellent Devil's Own WI kit I believed it would benefit a few tweeks. Incidently, the runs yesterday were done without water in the WI kit.

The questioning of the car's performance was due to the RR printout from my original mapping at Thor in October 2005 and a subsequent RR day at Macdonald Racing. The printout from Thor shows 279.6hp with 250.6 of torque and is clearly labelled at the flywheel but I was assured that it was actually at the hubs and it was an issue with the software that it labelled the graphs in this way. At Macdonald Racing my car produced 284.6hp at the fly with 264lbs/ft of torque. At DPTuning yesterday she produced 287.4hp at the fly with 242.8 of torque at the fly. These figures are pretty consistent if Thors figures are actually at the fly and not the hubs as I was told. Dave explained to us how they can make the car appear to produce better figures by the placement of the car in the rig and placement of temperature probes etc, but he is not into that.

From my first meeting with Dave, he knew I was prepared to spend money on a remap. His comments on the couple of runs with my car was that it had a good solid map and that he could probably squeeze up to another 10+ bhp with some mapping time on the RR. He felt that 10.5 AFR on full boost was a good SAFE map and that he would not take it any leaner than mid 11's. There was a bit more scope with the WI kit but I had stated that the WI was primarily for safety to keep charge temps down and prevent knock. He gave me the info for me to make the decision about further mapping but said in his mind the car was a good safe performer as it is.

What more can I say?

Kris - there was about 3 inches of clearance from my MRD sideskirts to the top of the ramp once the car was in the rollers. Take your car down and have a talk with Dave and he will let you know if there will be clearance issues.

I will be up for an RR day there as I am definately going to play around with the WI kit and methanol mix's but I will also definately be keeping this Thor map as my primary map.

Does anyone know if they got that graph labeling problem fixed or is it still displaying hub power as flywheel power nowadays too? If I'd spent tens of thousands on purchasing a dyno I would want that 'software glitch' sorted straight away
