powder coated heat shields and rocker

Post by luke t »

just had my 2 heat shields powder coated, and the rocker and cold pipe shot blasted and powder coated. had them done in gold, and they look great.
the painters is just down the road from my work and hes a mate.
only cost me £70 for all of them.
bargain in my eyes, makes the engine bay look great.
if anybody wants the same, take the parts of you want done and send them to me with the colour details and ill post em back lookin great!!

I've had mine powder coated. Took it to dyno, lost oil pressure, took it home, stripped engine, found everything covered with blast media. Full engine rebuild including crank, cams, new head, drilled off baffle plate and fount big clumpy build ups of media. Scraped it all out and it had to have a number of steam baths at the engine builders and finally we were happy it was clean. But I'd NEVER have it done again. Just not worth the risk.

TBH dude once its been near any kind of sand/ shot blast you will struggle to get it clean again..... best bet bin it or risk killing your engine :eye:

The only way to clean anything that is connected to/ feeds directly into the engine is with acid dipping.

+1

Sorry mate- seen a few engines scrapped this way...just not worth the risk, it only takes a tiny particle of grit to wreck a bearing

Sounds nasty!

I was going to get mines sand blasted and powdercoated over the winter, but starting to think i might just get it painted!!

Would this be a safer option?

On mine (rev 3) I had to drill out all the rivets, clean it all as mentioned, then drill out & tap all the rivet holes, and screw the baffles back on (using loc tite!)

mines a rev 3 too did you have to get new seals for the baffle housing, as it looks like theres some rubber seals under them.
