Help! If Carlsberg made unpractical cars....

Post by mk2too »

Then my Mr2 is one of them!

My boot is jammed shut, the cable is working fine as i can hear it trying, the key however will not turn either way ;(

Its completley shut and will not barge is there anyway into these boots?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Cheers

Hmmm what position is the lock in? if it's horizontal, then your boot is deadlocked and the cable won't open it. The only real way in is to spray oil into the barrel and gently work the key until it opens or at least until you can get it into a vertical position which will allow the cable to operate.

Alternatively I guess you could try drilling the lock out, but I'd be careful doing this since there's a small bar that connects the cable to the opening mechanism which goes through the lock. Knock this off and getting into the boot is going to be a bit of a mission......

From my experience you have 2 options here.

1 - spray wd40 in the lock and keep wigling it the key until it free's up.
2 - take the side engine bay covers off and with a small chizsel smash the pins of the hinge and replace these.

I tried drilling the lock out and it still will not open, then you have to buy a new lock.

I opted for number 2 above and just replace the pins in the hinge.

Took about an hour.

Good luck and try not to turn the lock to the left again lol

I had this too, if you can get someone (or you) to sit inside and pull the lever up n down while you (or someone) buggers about with the key. it worked for me good luck.
