[Mk2] [Turbo] thermostat ???

Post by simonmr2 »

Hi All,
have a problem, the car will be running fine and then the temp will hit the red, and stay there for a bit but then will just full back to normal, but it will be a sudden drop, is this the thermostat ???? and if so how hard is it to change ??

cheers

Is the engine actually getting that hot? You can normally tell as they smell hot! etc. Once overheating they don,t usually drop in temp that quick - its more likely a wiring problem somewhere from sender to gauge. If it does turn out to be your thermostat its a fairly easy job done in about ten minutes tho when they go wrong its usually that they,re stuck open rather than closed !!

Good Luck with it :thumleft:

go for a run untill its warmed up then open your bonnet and feel your radiator pipes that are runnign into the radiator. They should both be hot.
