The difference is you'll have a hard time getting hold of the T1-S, as it's been replaced by the T1-R and is being phased out by Toyo (I believe some sizes will still be available though)..

Can't tell you which is best though, I've only tried the older T1-S - reports of the T1-R rate it highly, though..

I can offer a back to back comparison.

T1-R has a better compound that offers a large improvement in dry grip. Wet grip is as near as unchanged. Also the T1-R has alot more meat on the sidewall tread area. so they last longer under heavy cornering before droppng under the 1.6mm minimum tread depth.

Assuming 7J & 8J rims (or even 7J all round), 205/45 on front and 225/45 on rear. I've also recently switched from the T1-S to T1-R and would agree with Pete J's comments.

Very good tyres for the price. =D>

Blimey, I reckon the S's are great!

I was just thinking the same  I've always sworn by them, first on the 300ZX and now on the Roadster, and they've always been fantastic for me..

I shan't worry so much about killing them at Elvington now - good excuse to get some T1-Rs ;)

Don't like the Rs :( . After changing from S's I found they took ages to wear in, were good for a while and now seem to be going off (they were fitted about 2 weeks after Brunty) . The T1-S' gripped from start to finish even on the track.

As you run 195/50/15s You should try yoko advan neova LTS..... they are the best thing since sliced bread. Honest.

£95 a tyre available from any lotus dealer.

We seem to be running out of decent options. SO3's now seem to be completely unobtainable. T1R's look like one of the few that are available in the right sizes. I've been looking for a set of good tyres for standard wheels, 205/50/15 and 225/50/15 get one you cant get the other!!

I've found that my local garage can get them, not sure of the price yet. Now that I've got a set of track wheels I think I can splash out on some decent rubber. The track wheels are green BTW.

Is that from mytyres.co.uk Luize?

I'm probably fitting exactly the same (in 215/40x16) to my mk1.5 from them... so it'd be interesting to see how you go on. Only other place I've seen a similar price is Camskill.co.uk
