Cleaning NA engine lid

Post by ChrisT »

My engine lid has become filthy due to seed buds dropping out a tree and falling thoroug the gaps, marking the tray underneath.

Anyone have any tips on how to properly clean this part of the engine lid, as pouring water through doesn't seem to be having much of an effect and I can't squeeze a spunge through?

Have always preferred the tubby engine lids, but the chances of getting a carribean blue one are probably slim, and I don't really want to be getting things sprayed at the moment.

Alloy wheel brush doesn't sound like a bad idea; should be able to get at the muck a bit better with that.

Stupid bloody trees

what a strange statement :?

surely to avoid the cost of spraying it would be better to just wait for a turbo engine lid to come available in the correct colour. ie: like i did, Zircon Blue Turbo engline lid, £50, perfect colour match, job done

I think the problem Peter C had is buying a car that suffers from paint fade :eye:

The (quite simple point I was trying to make), is that unless your engine lid is suffering from a beyond-repair defect (and dirt under the vents should not be considered terminal), do not bother replacing the panel because you may end up spending a lot of money on needless improvements.

It was only needless spend because you didnt wait for an engine lid to come up in the right colour

They are a great upgrade and mean its very easy to fit Engine lid fans

Wrong.

I bought an engine lid via EBay, adverstised as painted in 3E5 red (the shade of my car), however when it arrived it was damaged (Royal Mail compensated me for all costs) and the colour did not match!

Although my MR2 is five years newer than the earliest SW20, it is 15 years old. In this time it has had its fair share of bodywork repairs, as is the case with most MR2s and 15 year old cars. With this in mind, finding a panel or having one sprayed in a colour that will match the rest of the car is not that straight forward.

Thanks for the ideas :thumleft:

In the end I wrapped a surface cloth around an old toothbrush, and used that with car shampoo.

Worked a treat :D
