should I buy a 2nd car??or drive the mr2 every day???

Post by 2barGee »

My mr2 is used as a weekend car at the moment and I have a company car. But at the end of this month I start a new job with no company car!! Not sure if I want to use the mr2 as an everyday car or buy a second car????I was thinking about a Clio 172 cup, I've seen a nice 1 for sale.
I use the mr2 for track days and don't really want to put loads of miles on her. Also The drive to work is only 10 mins so the car won't even be warm by the time I get there!!!!
What shall I do??????

Cheers dan

Buy another car..... a N/A MR2. Cheap motoring and interchangeability of most parts. Mine's been an everyday driver for almost 10yrs now, very reliable and decent luggage space for shopping, my photo equipment and most other bits. You know it makes sense.

I used mine as a daily driver but I was clocking up a massive amount of miles Dan. If you're using it a lot then maybe a runabout for the week is the best option. Especially yours, as you spent a lot of money on it.

I use mine as a daily driver / work but work isnt too far from me so it doesnt clock that much milage up on it (under 3,000 miles a year for work so not bad)

Crap thing is Im on a 3000 mile usage policy!! This was one of the things I completely forgot to get removed when I renewed my policy so going to phone them and see what the difference is to get it taken off.

a 172 cup wont be cheap to insure mate, not at 26 and with 1 years no claims, i think i'd be lucking at something like a 306td, i used to run a 106td as a cheap run around, and my god it was cheap! i also reckon if you got a cup, you'd want to track that, and probably mod it 8)

Buy a honda.. Its something I've never managed to break !! It'll always start at the turn of a key as well.

In my eyes.. should be looking at low maintenance cars... not potential money pits ( Renault ) I had a company Megane coupe Priviledge model.. top model 2.0 16V.. not to dissimilar to the clio's lump.... in 2 years, i must have created £4K of work for them .. gearbox, clutch, brake calipers, suspension, electrics are rubbish still - windows, switches .. 3 sets of coil packs, idling problems ( never rectified ) ..... Yip.. this all from a brand new motor !!

That recent Renault advert made me smile..... nostalgic trip to things you wouldn't buy again that you once had....

"Remember when you said you'd never buy another Renault ....... "

My memories not that bad !!

I've thought about a push bike but then any excuse to get another car!!

Even thought about a motor bike but i think i would love the speed to much and i want to live a little bit longer.......... so i would get a ped!! But i'm 6ft 4 so i would look like a right tool on a ped i bet

What Honda do you rekon JJ???

Or forge the mr2s bottom end!!!!!!

Prelude 2.2 vtecs are fun, I loved mine, and it was very reliable and loved being thrashed, and was quite torquey for a Honda.

Civic/CRX 1.6 vti are fun too.

Top end of any model... Realistically.. good bunch of cars..... I've had a wrath of Civics and Accords... and never had any engine problems.

I've had an accord for 70k miles.. its a 3.0 V6 Vtec coupe which is a grandad carrier.. but ruddy hell.. best car I've ever owned !!! I've had it 7 years now .. and all I've replaced is wear and tear parts !!

Forged bottoms ends are a good idea.. but things will still provoke its reliability ](*,)

Dan get yourself a second car fella, when i did I couldnt believe how much money I was saving through fuel & mantaince etc as my monthly petrol bill for my tubby was about £250 per month. I got a little civic as you know and saved loads of money and stress to the car.

just buy a £400 - £500 banger with Tax and Ticket dude with the view of if it passes another MOT thats good if not I saved that in petrol alone nopt to mention the maintance or wear and tear on parts
