Are these refurblished / rebuilt engines ? or just bought in for distribution to the public ??!!

Always difficult fitting an engine with no history !

I'm guessing theres a surcharge or you have to hand in your old unit !! not a bad price though ! :thumleft:

maybe im being pessimistic, but I cant see these engines being rebuilt.. they will just be engines removed from scrapped cars with "SMR" Hoping for the best  ](*,)

AVOID LIKE THE FVCKING PLAGUE!

i have had an engine from them as have a few others on here and they are cowboys!

My head is smoking with valve stem seals worn on an apparently fully overhauled engine.

i know others who have had cars which have have big ends worn.

i bought an smr engine of the same dealer on ebay and as i said in my earlier post i have just fitted it to find a loud knocking noise coming from the bottom end suspected to be the big end bearings, now i dont know what to do! spend more money and try to fix the engine or take it out, strip it send it back wait for a replacement and start all over again!

whats to stop them sending me another scrap engine!

its a pure knightmare, anyone got any advice?

I wouldnt remove any parts as it will void the warranty

just give them the lump back, and get a refund? Id rather have a refund than be sent a duff engine again!

if you want a replacement 3sge engine, you are better off buying from an affiliate on here or re-building one yourself!?

Bubs - see if they can refund you and you keep it !! Stops it going around in circulation... I bet its hitting back at their yard and they're just sending it out to someone else that needs one....Its a start.... then you can see what you want to do with it...

Unfortunately team, cheap is not always best !!

Again looking at the economics... in my eyes.. a normally aspirated rebuild simply isn't worth it... the labour and parts alone would technically make your car a mechanical write off.... unless you've got a 95+.

Bubs...and others that may read this thread..... rectifying a knocking engine / crank / big end issues is a costly exercise.... you maybe better off sourcing another complete MR2 with working engine ( MOT failure / crash damage or sommat ) .. test the engine / running gear, make sure its 100% fit.... and strip it !

Labour alone can be £500 to swap a like for like engine out or simply pull and refit.. without carrying out any work on the bottom end - crank regrind, new bearings / gaskets etc... Say £500 ... so looking at £1K before finding any other issues ( worn clutch etc )

The other option is brutal... but its purely economics... strip your own car or flog it as a non runner... and buy another.

Sometimes you have to put your passion to one side and draw the line !
