Post by pistol pete »

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... 48#1029548

and i must admit it felt great.. getting all the brakes on etc felt just normal.. then i decided to give it that clean and polish i have been promising it ... i did that and during that time i just sunk into the car "so to speak" all worries and everything just left me it felt great i have not done that ina long time....
once all done i took the car round the block (tax starts on the first) but had to make sure everything was okay...
well i had sat for close to 8 weeks... put the key in turned broom straight away not even a hesitation..... then it hit me.. these cars are great and i love em...
a quick ride round my road before putting it to bed till friday.... oh hurry up friday that little run felt so good.......... i want more

I know exactly what you mean.

My Mk1 that I have been driving 500miles every week for the last 2 years, has been off the road for nearly 2 weeks now needing complete new front brakes. I have been driving my 106 GTi around and, although its fast and a lot of fun, its just not the same. My brakes arrived on tuesday and I will be doing the work at the weekend.

Can't wait to get it back on the road again and get that 'feeling' back again
:D :D :D

New suspension bushes, shocks and springs is the next job. So should feel like new fairly soon :)

I know that feeling all to well, I was only driving my MK1 for a few weeks before it got a little to intimate with the back of a Focus and has now been off the road for 3 weeks.

During the work I have been doing on it part of the rear wheel arch fell off (due to the last owner apparently building it from filler), I have the replacement part so just need some help getting it put back on.

I feel quite sad but I have been starting her up and letting it run for a while just to hear her purrrrr.

I have been using mine a bit more recently and it really does bring a smile to my face. It was a nice day and i had the t-bar panels out, windows down, along a twisty country road, engine revving away....... there's nothing quite like it, especially for the price! Still gets looks from passers by too as they stand out from the usual hatchbacks etc.

The more I think about it the more im finding the Mk1 feeling is More of a Mk1 Addiction.

You go out and buy a Mk1 and its great then something breaks

you spend Lots of money getting the car fixed and right.

You then get the mk1 feeling for about a month two months if your lucky and then something breaks or niggles at you that its not at its 100% so you loose the mk1 feeling but your still driving it so its almost like your suffering withdrawl symptoms as your not getting your fix of this is perfect 100% how it should be.

So you spend more money fixing it and getting the feeling back.

IMHO Its an addiction not a feeling.
