23/06/09 UPDATE :D Rolling Road result and Video

Post by Turbo97 »

well i wrote a whole massive spiel on this and for some reason it disappeared

Anyways, gonna cut it a bit shorter this time.

Thought i would make up a progress thread since i have a lot planned in the near future

Owned the car for about 7 months and me being me, i get bored pretty quickly! I tried to promise myself no to change the car at all, but.....like so many others, once bitten by the bug....its hard to stop.

Car was like this when i got it

Image

Image

First off was a change of the wheels. I fancied going for TE37's again but bigger and wider but finding a 2nd hand set in the sizes i was after was gonna be very slim and buying new...well, you know what the prices of Volks wheels are new! So went for a set of Rota Torque Drifts in 17x8" & 9"....super happy with them :D Think they suit the cat down to a T :)

Next up...boredom has been starting to get the better of me again, and change was imminant.....namely bodywork wise. Exerything is getting changed, front bumper, rear bumper and sides. I have made the first step by removing the rear veilside spoiler! I was planning on replacing it with something else, but i really like it now that its off, so i am just going to run spoilerless.

So here she is at the moment as of today. The rest of the bodywork is getting done VERY soon, so keep a close eye on this :)

Next up is my BERK downpipe going on next week....cant wait :D

Ohhhhh and by the way, got the girl to do a couple vids of the car on takeoff and flyby :D

Yes yes i know, but what looks better?

Its a road car first and foremost, so for when its on the road.....how it looks comes before the fact the TE37's are a good bit lighter!

And whether you believe it or not, the rotas are hugely high on quality!!! i love them so far!

when it comes to track days and 1/4 miles....i have lighter shoes to put on, et voila.....best of both worlds :)

What size of tyre you running on the rear?? Is the car lowered and if so did you need to roll the rear arches??

Thanks

Hi James

The car is running 9" wheels with a 235/45/17 tyre. And yes the car is lowered, i'm on coilovers and nope didnt have to role the arches at all, but the suspension is quite firm so i'm not getting too much suspension travel. Thus eliminating any opportunity for the arches to catch on the tyres.

So alot of it well depend on how 'bouncy' your suspension will be with regards to it rubbing.

Hope that helps :)

Right folks, just a wee update here...nothing too much to be honest.

With my local VW forum EastsideVW, a rolling road day was organised, so i decided to take part and get the Mister on to the rollers and finally see what she's pushing out :)

Loads of nice cars there, and yeh its a Volkswagen forum, but the forum really does host a wide variety of metal, from VR6's, R32's, M3's, Scooby's, Evo's, Clio Sports....and obviously the sole MR2 :P

Really really good day out, with most guys pretty chuffed with the readings! There wasn't many really big powered cars which was a bit of a shame, with the highest of the day going to a standard Scooby P1 at just a touchy off 300bhp.

Your prob thinking why the E46 M3 wasnt alot higher. Well the last style of M3 has a built in sort of rev dyno limiter...i dont know the ins and outs, but the car cuts at 6500rpm or something because the ecu senses that the front wheels arent moving and that maybe something is wrong. The boy was a bit pi$$ed to say the least!!

Anyways onto the MR2...well i'm extremely chuffed. After running a 13.5 quarter mile on...well no the greatest surface in the world  i was always desperate to see how much ponies she was pushing out. Sooo....heres my results :)

Rev4 2.0l Turbo Toyota MR2 with a Departure II exhaust, an HKS intake and Blitz BOV(not that that matters) but apart from that she's relatively standard :)

Run No 1:

Max Power Engine - 249.9bhp @ 6818rpm
Max Power Wheels - 212.9bhp @ 6276rpm
Max Torque - 219.6lbft @ 5300rpm

Run No 2:

Max Power Engine - 249.7bhp @ 6731rpm
Max Power Wheels - 215.6bhp @ 6694rpm
Max Torque - 219.7lbft @ 5344rpm

So there you have it! bloody 0.1bhp off of 250  I'm still going to say 250 anyway :P But yeh really happy with that! Both runs were really consistent, Boost is holding very nicely along the rev range. Sooo, just waiting to get my Downpipe on because i think the cat is restricting her a fair bit and then the new intercooler on, then time to whack up the boost :P

Heres a vid of my two runs :) Enjoy and thanks for reading

Cheers lads, i am really chuffed.

Yeh when i get my intercooler, i might go for a change of intake and i'v heard the ARC ones were really good but quite tough to get hold of?

Its all in the pipeline, and will take time, i have a holiday to save for first :P
