[Mk2] [NA] which N/A exhaust

Post by enji_benji »

I noticed a huge response to a recent 'what turbo exhaust' so as I am in the market for a new exhaust on my N/A seems only right to re-ask the question......
Which high end system....????

but more importantly for me... being on a budget after being screwed over at work with my annual bonus.... (recession cut backs my ar*e..... any flippin excuse with my lot!!!)

I've been looking around the £250 mark and have seen Magnex, Mongoose and Blue Flame................. what's your views on these folks ????????
Or any other recomendations ?

magnex (NO) they resonate my friend has one on his N/A with oval tips & it sounds s..t , mongoose is a good quality exhaust used to have one on my turbo but wanted larger tips so changed it other than that the sound was nice & the look was subtle, blue flame dont know much about other than they used to make bike cans which were high quality!! what is the look your looking for ?? mine is an xs power now which i think they might do one for the n/a as well

This is the full sports, with straight through boxes, no cat and 2" bore.

That video really doesnt give a true reflection of how loud it is. :thumleft:

I have a Mongoose + decat on mine. It sounded a bit rough and nasty at first but after reseting ecu and driving around for a couple hundred miles, it now sounds sweet :thumleft: Loud without being chavvy.

Performance wise, I think I did notice a bit of difference. But I'd put an apexi induction kit on before putting the exhaust on so cant really tell which made the most difference.

oh, the combination of apexi and mongoose makes the car sound like a jet plane when I drive faster than i need to...

Mongoose are made by Blue Flame so they should be very similar.

Check out http://www.pipewerx.com/ This guy used to work for Blue Flame and really knows his stuff. Ive seen/heard many exhausts hes done over the years and they have all been superb. If you tell him what you want sound/looks wise he will build it for you.

:o oh, did'nt realise !!! Thanks bud. So the only real difference then should be the styling !
Thats another tick for the blueflame then ! !
My only problem now is..... I can't decide between the Blueflame and the Japspeed OR go for a custom Like Matt Coopers??
3 very different looking zorst's but..........???? Don't wanna buy one and be disapointed........ you know what I mean?
I want nice sound and quality ..... fit and forget kinda thing !!!
Anybody got video of their blueflame......this is one system I cant find a decent vid of on you tube?? Seen one which was called 'mr2 turbo blueflame drive by'........ and sounded....... well....... only ever so, ever so- slightly deeper than a standard box!!!
I'm not a chav looking for ASBO style antics but you know what I mean right?? :-k

The mongoose system is pretty quiet, and also, in my opinion, looks a bit gash, but the quality is top notch

The Blueflame is a ever so slightly louder, looks better with the angled tips, but is still not loud enough for me, however, is great quality.

Japspeed sounds great, looks AWESOME, but there have been quite a few issues with them going rusty. Also heard you may need to weld new mounts on etc...

My custom, sounds great, loud/quiet as you like, lifetime warranty, design the tail pipes, good welds, but quite expensive.

For me, it would be either japspeed, or custom. Blueflame or mongoose really dont do it for me, but i like to stand out! \:D/

ive got a japspeed , and when i was looking for a zorst i heard the same storys about them going rusty , bad fit etc . so i was put off by them. however a friend of mine who happens to be a mechanic , has fitted these exhausts to a few friends of ours mr2's . he fitted one 18 months ago and it went rusty in a matter of weeks , he also said it was a bad fit . he got a replacement and the flanges where different and fitted correctly without any mods . this replacement exhaust is still in great condition . my other m8 has had his on now for 6 months and his is still ok and in great condition . so i went for one myself :thumleft: i fitted it myself and it was a doddle :thumleft: looks and sounds awesome in my opinion . when i had an n/a i had a blue flame for about a week  mine was the loudest zorst ever ! motorway journeys were a nightmare. in the end i got a remus zorst and that sounded great and i noticed more torque than it had with the blue flame. the only thing i would be wary about with a japspeed is ebay ones that are cheap ! most likely the rubbish ones left over :-k

I would personally go custom. Like i said above the guy from Pipewerx was one of the top technicians at Blueflame and will make you a system that sounds exactly how you want it. He made a full system for my mate years ago on his 1.0 lt Polo. My mate told him he wanted it to sound like a VR6 and it came back with the deepest, smoothest tone ive ever heard sounded absolutely gorgeous.
