[Mk2] [NA] please help mr2 knightmare!

Post by bubs_mr2 »

ok hi i apprecaite anyones help or advise on this. i bought a 1991 ukspec n/a mr2, after 1 week of driving the engine rattled

rather than trying to fix the engine i purchased a reconditioned engine so i have stripped my old engine and put everything on the new one including gearbox and new clutch plate, i have moderate mechanical skills but have never done this before.

i was gettin on ok hookin the new engine up until today when i was sortin out the gear linkage and then attaching the cluthch release cylinder or slave as it seems to be known as, i had bolted on the main bracket for this and sat in side the car, pushed the clutch pedal down and it made a creaking noise i did it again an there was nothin no noise but no pressure, the pedal went straight to the floor and also i couldnt select a gear, the gearstick will not move and it is sitting as if it is stuck in fourth gear #-o i took another look at the slave and i had forgot to put in the two small bolts at the top,i then noticed the brake fluid was commin out round the rubber boot and the whole thing looked very twisted and when i took it off the pin was pushed right out. do i need a new slave cylinder? im hoping the gear box doesnt have to come off again! this is a knight mare i have nothing to drive and i have spent a fortune :pale: :pale:

doesn't matter if the piston comes out. Just clean it all up and put it back together. As long as you haven't torn any seals when it twisted it'll be fine!

(I did the same thing last time I refitted one! :) )

Oh, and also, yes it absolutley will stop you being able to select a gear.
It's the clutch release so without it the clutch won't disengage, it's like trying to change gear without pushing the pedal at all.

When you get it all back together you'll need to bleed it (exactly the same as brakes) which is a complete pain as it takes ages. THere's a second reservoir in the front of the car next to the one for the brakes, make sure you keep it well topped up while you bleed the system as it doesn't hold much fluid.

This is MUCH easier with 2 people by the way!

Good luck!
