Clutch/Gearbox problems

Post by vargas1 »

Went on the Coventry/Solihull meet today and as we were turning out of a cross roads heard a clunk not very loud though, if I had the stereo on I would not have heard it.

Carried on driving the car but the clutch felt very vague. When we pulled up at a set of lights I struggled to get it into any gear, but managed to find second to pull away.

Finally got to the Ricoh, when I pushed the clutch peddle in as soon as it hit the biting point there was a metalic spinning noise coming from the gearbox.

Anyway managed to get the car home, once moving there gear changes are relatively good its just when stationary.

Let the car cool down and have restarted it the noise it still there from depressing the clutch but I can find a gear when cold.

Sorry for the rambling but has anyone any idea as to what might be the problem?

Many thanks in advance.

Kev.

try something first which will write the clutch off....

Engine off > Stick it in gear > Pedal down > Start engine... if the car moves with the clutch down, then the clutch friction plate has failed and the some of the fragments are caught in between the clutch cover and the flywheel... causing continuous drive...

SO your lack of selection at standstill is like you trying to engage a gear without dunkin the clutch.

Just another check... have a nosy under the passenger rear wheel to see if theres any oil about ?!
