[Mk2] [Turbo] Worth switching air filter?

Post by dave_f »

Hi guys

Currently have a rev3 turbo with all the bolt on mods, greddy i/c, ebc, decat and blitz exhaust, and blitz access ecu along with cooler plugs.

Its got an apexi panel filter on at the moment and i was just wondering whether it would be worth changing over to a cone type filter such as the apexi power intake. Would there be any performance increase from doing this?

Also whats the maximum boost a should run on this, i assume its 1.2bar...

Cheers

You'd only get a minimal power increase by switching to a cone filter, maybe 2hp if you're lucky. The Apexi power intake doesn't half sound nice though so worth it for the sound alone

1.2bar on your mods is about as high as I would go.

Might up bhp a little bit the main thing i noticed when putting on a cone filter was how rev the rev counter became.

personally i would rather keep your current set up
yes, you may gain a couple of horse power and lots more noise but i would rather have cooler air and less noise myself

You 'may' lose power. as mentioned, the air will be cooler with your current setup. the good thing about the apexi though is they've got a heat shroud which should nullify the heat soak somewhat.

but the noise is a bonus.

Obviously I know I fall differently into this catagory because I'm a N/A guy but I've gone for a carbon encased cone induction kit.

All the perks of a straight through pipe (no resonators) fed from the side vent giving it an awesome noise when accelerating but quiet when not and also the bonus of keeping the air cool until it gets to the engine.

Well worth the money in my opinion and what I'd choose over and over again :thumleft:
