3SFE to 3SGE conversion

Post by Peebs »

My friend has recently bought a 3SFE engined mark 2 and wants to convert it to a 3SGE engine, would anyone know what extra parts from a 3SGE MR2 would be needed, eg ecu etc

Does he know hes not going to see a wild difference?

The 3SFE is the same block as the 3SGE but with a head built for economy. Which results in the 3SFE having quiet a bit of lowdown torque, something which the 3SGE totally lacks.

I wouldnt say its worth the effort, if hes going to change hes much better off saving his money and going for a turbo.

Yep 30 bhp but only 7 more ft./lb torque. It'll pull from the line quicker but once up and running there's not going to be enough difference to make him feel the costs were worth it. Enjoy it for what it is, a practical sports car with excellent handling, not a street drag machine. For poke a turbo would be the only financially sensible upgrade.

I think it would be worth it, you can pick up a 3sge for a few hundred quid so ain't exactly going to be expensive also depending what rev you get it will be 30-50 bhp more \:D/

Plus there are more performance parts available for the 3sge than 3sfe so i say go for it =D>

its a complete swap..... not just unplugging one and installing another.

you COULD spend £1k labour to swap the engine... and for 30bhp??? hmmmm not logical.

why not spend 1-2k on the turbo engine swap and get 100bhp?

approximate values. not gospel.

Id rather go for torque than horsepower, after all that is the turning force of the wheels, and for the 7ft/lb extra, id say its not worth it also.
