[Mk2] [NA] creaking noises

Post by spooferman »

resently fitted sone chav 16" wheels 225 45 16. an have had some very strange noices from the car. driving n straight line and worse on corners.

all shocker and drop links have been replaced last year. I have just put the standard rims back on and discovered a scary problem

The engine subframe is very rusty and has holes in it to the right of the engine mount  I'm guessing that this would fail an MoT if its welded.

I have sourced a replacement but it looks a scary job to replace.

It's actually not as bad as you'd think to fit. You remove the exhaust, the suspension can be unbolted from the subframe and swung clear to the side, and then you remove the rear engine mount.

I think after that it drops down with just four very long bolts.

You'd certainly be able to change it in a day. A couple of hours if nothing puts up too much of a fight.

Thinking about it, I think you can probably unbolt the exhaust mount from the subframe, and leave the exhaust in situ so that would save you from the most rusted nasty bolts!
