[Mk2] [Turbo] Ignition, rad fans and power steering problems.

Post by madr2turbo »

Hi,
My car is a mr2 turbo revision 1, Heres a couple of my elecrical problems.

When i turn the key to ingnition on position the rad fans come on and my power steering cuts out. Then when i turn the key to start, the entire cars electrics shut down ? theres a click from under the frunk, then nothing.

If i pull the connector off the battery for 5/10 seconds then re attach, all electrics come back on line.

Thing is when i checked all my fuses I found that, if i pull the 7.5 amp ecu-b fuse it sorts the rad fans they stay off and my power steering comes back on, but if i turn the key to start nothing happens.

Hope some one can help as i am absolutely baffled by this.

Sounds like a earth fault and/or relay faults.

Difficult to diagnose with wiring diagrams and not seeing the car.

If you are good with electrics give it a go using these diagrams.

If you are not good with electrics its definatly best to use an affiliant garage as they will be the quickest to diagnose a fault like this one.

Thanks, Lewis :thumleft:
It was the starter motor earth strap that was causing entire cars electrics to die when i turned the key to start

I removed the starter motor earth strap leads theres two straps atached the top of the starter and gave them a good clean with sandpaper, then cleaned up the top of the starter motor were the straps are going to be bolted to.

Re conected the earth straps, turned the key and she fired up \:D/ .

Any ideas why my power steering will not work with the 7.5 amp ecu-b fuse plugged in??.. and why both my rad rans are on full tilt soon as i turn the ignition on..

Some extra info..

I checked all the relays under the frunk today with continuity check mode on my multimeter, and they all seem ok.

I also checked the rad fan conectors and they seem ok too..

My car did at some point have air conditioning, I am guessing the previous owner ripped it out when the revision2 engine was fitted, just wondering if this could be the reason why my rad fans are running permanently.

Hope someone can help
Thanks in advance :thumleft:
