Post by dave_f »

Hi, where do people get their driveshaft gaiters, both inner and outer, i've had a search around but seem to get crazy prices, eg rogue £35 each  .

Cheers

You can get universal stretchy boots for about a fiver each !! I changed 2 on my long driveshaft 2 weeks ago !

Just need to measure each relevant diameters accordingly and get a tight fitting one ! :D

Toyota - £80 for 2

£160 for 4x rubber boots ???!

 In the bin I'm afraid ! One of mine was a little over sized over the joint and had to mount it over the clamping area over the existing one. Still seals up !

Just pop into your local motorist discount place, universal stretchy boots are on the shelf.... again.. just need to measure the diameters !

Too true... but let me see.. £10 V's £80 ! :-k I'm not a tight a55, but if you think £80 for 2x rubber boot is reasonable ??! ... when I can find a rubber boot the same / similar to the OE ones... ??! there is no detrimental effects to the running gear other than being a non standard part :D

Yeh seems camskill have stopped doing the cheaper kit !
But ad still buy the more expensive one if the boot fails and you lose that grease and the shaft overheats how much is that gunna cost ya !
Them poo strechy ones are for 80bhp town runabouts
not mid engined 250bhp+ cars
Only advantage with the stretchy ones is there easier to fit and you dont have to deal with the balls from hell.

I still had to pull mine apart and deal with the ball of hell.. even funnier fitting it back together... :^o

Bhp on cars has nothing to do with the driveshaft CV boot ! Mine runs 500+ and fitted with stretchys... Its just general wear and tear over a period of time.. if anything... the stretchy ones have a high threshold of elasticity, so should out live the original ones !! My original ones been on 16 years .. I'm not complaining !

Again.. dont get me wrong.. I'm soo much against fitting copy cat parts to the car / engine..... anal in fact... everything fitted to my car is top end brands...... but a rubber boot ???!! No adverse effects other than ( possible ) shorter life span O:)
