[Mk2] [Turbo] To BOV or not BOV ?

Post by bigshoe »

Hey people !!!

OK so Ive got myself a BOV to put in my rev 2 but I have since read that rev 1 & 2's have problems with aftermarket valves due to air flow meters?

Instead of recirculating back to the airbox as standard it vents to atmosphere and mucks up fuel and or air settings etc and the car will end up running like a dog.

Is this correct? Should I be ok putting the BOV in or just be best of staying standard ??

Cheers

i run a HKS bov in my rev 2, and personally i have not seen and noticable changes in fuel economy, stalling and idling problems - maybe im just lucky.

i would try and and see what you think to be honest.

A lot of people post up in here saying it's hit and miss as to whether it will work properly but nothing in cars is hit and miss... from what I've seen it's only the HKS SSQV that doesn't screw the rev1/2's up. Something to do with it being a dual piston valve I think.

Good luck anyway, make sure you report back!

Ive a SARD bov but hopefully works out ok.

I'll get it on and see what happens, if anything.

Will post up results.

I had a Blitz gen 2 on my rev 1 turbo. Didn't notice any difference, although others have seen poor running stalling out.

end of the day you're dumping air which is supposed to be metered by the AFM.

Thinking back, if i had a a rev 1/2 again I would leave the bov alone as the stock bov is very good in what it does.

PS, a search would have brought up the answers to this as the amount of times it has been discussed is around 15,685,839.

just remember to block off the recirc pipe that go's to the intake if you intend on venting to atmosphere, unlike me who forgot.. :P

My rev 2 had a Bailey BOV that vented to atmosphere. Though I didn't notice any problems as such I heeded the advice of Rogue and they fitted a standard recirc valve for £20. I didn't notice any difference in performance but my fuel consumption improved vastly.
If you really must get a BOV, try the HKS SSQV, GTS Chris sells these plus recirc attachements.

Just bought a Rev 2 that has a blitz bov fitted. Was out for a drive this morning and noticed that when drive up to a road end or traffic lights and coming of the throttle and onto the brakes the car stalled (revs dipped to be 500rpm).

Could this be because of the BOV as I had no issues with it up until today although I have only had the car a few weeks.
