Had my mongoose on for a couple of weeks now. In that time i've had 3 back fires.
It happened once before exhaust was fitted, after it'd been stood a week.
Should I be worried?
Any advice would be apprieciated.
Thanks
back fires can be caused by timing being out and overfueling you say back fire do you mine if you accelerate hard and let off it pops or it really makes a very loud bang where everybody hits the deck because thay think its a gunshot, reason i ask is my blue flame pops if i accelerate hard and let off also changing down at speed, ive experienced this a lot with stainless steel exhausts dont know if it is the flow of exhaust gasses or bigger bore,
just let me know what you mean by backfire
oh right to much fuel then and its igniting in the exhaust, i would check your timing and also how rich it is running matey im not a mechanic so just something to look at hope ive helped a little
When were your spark plugs etc last changed? In this weather the car will richen up the mixture for cold starts and if your electrics aren't up to getting the car started pretty soon after you turn the key you'll get quite a bit of unburnt petrol into your exhaust before it finally catches.
Thanks for your help guys. Not sure when spark plugs were last changed. Only had the 2 for 5 months. I'll be treating her to a service in the new year. The full works will be getting done. May even treat her to a new timing belt. Last got done in 2003 at 50000 miles. It's only done 75000 up to now, see how the funds are.
