[Mk2] [Turbo] advice for a newbie, why does my downpipe look different?

Post by Tommy P »

The standard ct26 turbo fitted to my 1993 gts has blown the seals, when i got underneath the car 2 have a look at what was involved in taking the exhaust system off i noticed tha my downpipe/cat looks different to all the others i have seen, the flange that bolts to the turbo is round and comes straight down from the turbo rather than coming from the side like i have seen with other aftermarket downpipes, can anyone shed some light on this?i am thinking about upgrading to a t4 but dont want to buy it until i kno that it will definately fit

It sounds like your describing the chamber the CAT is housed in. The bottom of it can be undone to drop the cat out, it is round about 6" diameter from memory and held on with lots of 10mm bolts.

It'd not be possible for you to have a turbo in the stock position and the exhaust side be pointing downwards straight from the turbo. that'd mean the turbos sat sideways to normal.
