Looks like it's coming from the distributor which is the other side/above of that silvery heat shield. These commonly leak but you can get a new o-ring for pennies from Toyota and replace it yourself. Did mine several years ago and it's been fine.

:( firstly no its not normal, looks like the oil is coming from the distributor, there is an internal o'ring and an external oring on the body where the distributor passes threw into the cylinder head, the external oring is an easy fix but the internal is a bit more tricky the distributor has to be removed and stripped to replace it from memory I think the external oring is a R23. the oil could also be coming from the cam covers at the cam belt side. The orings go brittle over time.

Thats a leaky o ring and takes minutes to fix and cost pennys. If you have oil in the cap then its the internal and more difficult o ring to replace but that looks more like the outer one. Simply take the cap of and mark when the dizzy is with tipex on the dizzy and head, take a note of which way the arm is pointing as it makes it easy to re-insert. Undo the 2 bolts holding the dizzy on and pull it out to reveal the o ring. Replace this and re-insert the dizzy. If you marked it well you shouldnt need a timing gun to retime the engine.

Both my '2s have had that oil seepage from the dizzy. Ive never bothered to get it fixed. Doesnt leak enough to cause concern. I just give it a clean up everytime I change the oil.

This seems to be a fairly common problem on the Mk1.

My one is doing the same but i have the o ring on order and will get it replaced.

Sounds simple.

But if i muck up the timing i will be giving you a call Bill to get out with the timing gun.

I think I might even have the kit to repair that leak lying in a toolbox, I noticed the leak when I bought the car, but after replacing the sump and filter it never leaked, or there was enough dirt on it to keep it sealed :)
