Anything and everything to do with maintenance, modifications and electrical is in here for the Mk2.
Hi Just got myself a nice mountain bike and want to go places with it probs is I only have my Mk2 tubby as a mode of transport has anyone on here used a bike rack or could recommend one ??
Or do I need to get an additional car
Cheers
Not tried it on my 2 but i've got a Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack and it's a bloody good bit of kit and it's fitted every car i've every tried it on. Very adjustable and well made. Can't see why it wouldn't fit a 2 unless you've got a massive wing. It's back at my olds at the moment so can't test it for you at the mo but if I go back in the next few days i'll give it a bash.
If not most good bike shops sell it and i'm sure they let you test fit one.

Iv got one of thease and it fits really well bumper far edge of boot iv had 2 bike one light weight and one heavy full susser on and that weighs a ton lol and it was fine guide ropes go to rear bonnet from the boot and the exhaust grill
Hope this helps daz
Just make sure that it doesn't rub away at the paintwork when you turn corners... they have a tendency to rock slightly, and the sponge pads can be abrasive once they get a bit dirty.
Bike racks are rubbish I bought one for the back of my golf and spent ages getting the bikes secure. When I got to the woods, there was a scratch on my boot. Luckily I'm not too concerned about the golf, but I imagine you would be annoyed if that was on your 2! Plus we had 2 bikes on the rack and they still rub off each other even though we secured them well.
I guess the best kind of rack is the ones that go on the roof and look really precarious? At least that doesn't damage your bike or your car. And you could just cycle the bike up your bonnet and on to the roof to save any heavy lifting
Take off the wheels and saddle, and you can get a mountain bike in the boot! The wheels will have to travel on the passenger seat, they don't seem to fit anywhere else.
