10W 40 Semi synth is ok for the 4AGE. Most peeps use Magnatec but I've found Mobil Super S is pretty damn good. :thumleft:

I use either Magnatec or Mobil SuperS as well now.

I went through a spate where I used Halfords own 10W40 as I was changing oil every 2000 - 3000 miles. But following a couple of big end failures. I use nothing but them two now :thumleft:

BTW this tool can also be very handy:

Oh god, why didn't I think of that? I spill it every time and it always leaks past the rubber of the cables into the area with spark plugs. A total mess to clean up. ](*,)

I've actually got a funnel that is in 2 parts, it unscrews and the thread on the funnel cone is exactly the same as the thread in a 4A. didn't buy it for that reason just found out by accident later.

FWIW, my Mk1 was run previosly by Nick Challoner who used 0W40 Mobil 1 in it. Pulling it apart to replace the HG the inside was in top condition :

I've been using 5W40 Mobil1 which I pick up in France when doing a day trip for ~£25 for 4 litres.
