What's My High Spec Rev3 Tubby Worth??

Hi Guys,
Well its come to crunch time for me so I'm wondering what my 2 is worth at the moment?

She's a white (040) rev3 tubby and covered around 78'000 miles.
Ill update with fresh pics of her later, but the spec list will take forever to type! Have a look here:

Ive spent in excess of £6000 since I bought her last year and haven't spared a penny on her.

Shes in very good condition, im incredibly fussy about keeping the engine/frunk and shuts polished. + immaculate on the inside! No running issues other than stated below, pulls like a train as some of you can testify to Stops just as quick too

She has three issues currently:
Clutch - will be replaced with an uprated RPS item before sale
Splitter - Damaged - will be repaired and painted before sale
Wheel Stud - missing one - will be replaced before sale

So what's she worth people?

Hmm... I dunno... 5k??

Not that high milage.. don't rev3 usually go for around 3.5k? I know modding doesn't up the value as such but I'm sure (me included if I had the cash) would be willing to pay alot more for a mint car thats been well looked after with some nice mods..

As an example, a nice s14 IIRC goes for about 3.5k, I paid over 5.5k for mine, as it had a load of nice stuff with it and was v low milage.. stupid maybe, lol, but if someone really wants a decent car they'll be willing to pay more than its 'worth' to get the exact sort they want IMO.

Shame you're thinking of selling, but sometimes its the way.. I sort of regret selling mine, but can't afford 2 cars and I love my new one too!

Lou Lou yeah that makes sense, its been meticulously taken care off and kinda hoping people would appreciate that + its a complete package, there is nothing else you could really do to it apart from a serious Hp build..

And there in lies the problem for me It's going to take another 12k to get the car to where I want it (a TOTB car) and I'm struggling to justify it to be honest...

....and if you bought a car with that spec of engine you wouldn't know it's history/background and almost certainly it would need wonga spending on it anyway.

well put things in perspective. you spent 6k on it and probably bought it for around 4k, so thats 10k in total. plus time and effort

for 10k you can easily find a 450bhp rx7, road legal and ready to go..... i know what common sense would say on this occasion

How much power does a TOTB car need?

How does the £12,000 needed to be spent break down? Maybe it won't end up that much?

I've seen and driven this car, and I'll vouch for it completely. It's worth £5k all day long

It also has immense brakes. Not sure why it's thought to need that much more spent?

Hi Andy,
The majority of the 12k is for the engine build and around 2-3k for things like bucket seat/harness and other bits and bobs like adjustable tie rods ARB bars, decent tyres and a geometry set up etc.

Yours is a good point Toni! I hadn't considered that..

I went to TOTB this year and the quality of (some) cars were quite poor, inc. some of the MR2's and Nova's and Corsa's!!

The build on my engine cost me £2k approximately, with the turbo, PFC and injectors (all not yet added) there's another £2,500 inc. mapping, that would be good for 400-450bhp and would not look out of place with some of the cars at TOTB.

With that money Matt, you must be wanting to win it!!!

I don't think you need anywhere near that much.

Forged pistons, rings, bearings, full engine gasket set, steel head gasket, big turbo, big injectors, big fuel pump, engine management.

You're looking at £5,000 I reckon, 450bhp. You'll also get money back for selling your existing CT20b Turbo, and the rest of the gubbins you're replacing making back a couple of hundred.

Your suspension and brakes (IMHO) are fine - we could set the car up beautifully.

For 12,000 I'd probably be able to write a 600bhp shopping list!

PS If you buy a going concern, it can often cost just as much to *check* what's been already done, as it is to do it from scratch.

That would be the plan , I was aiming for circa 500bhp..

Just in a bit of a pickle because, its frustrating as heck spending all my spare cash on replacing bits instead of getting on and improving it! Ive reknewed everything bar hubs and the undertrays now lol...

If there's is a way to do it for around 6-7k I could justify that no worries, I'm just not the type to cut corners.

A 450bhp RX7 will eat petrol for breakfast Matt. Conversely my TRD at the kind of power levels you are thinking of cruises at the same cost as any MK2 turbo. It only starts to gobble it up when you get heavy footed.

However, if your engine is completely standard I do think you are looking at £10K, if you don't do it yourself. Christ I spent that and my engine already had forgies. Tuning is not a cheap game - but that goes for any car.

I would say if you've replaced a lot of stuff though you are starting from the right place! Keep a car you know and build that if you are going into the tuning game.

me neither mate im a perfectionist!!

I was lucky to have a hands on guy with MR2's when fully rebuilding! although bottom end, completely cleaned, honed, balaced and fitted with my new forgies and rods with rings, fully plug and play for £300!! sent off and came back 48 hours later!

was quite reasonable!

I would say if you've replaced a lot of stuff though you are starting from the right place! Keep a car you know and build that if you are going into the tuning game.

As much as i'd like to take this car off your hands, if you want a totb car i'd say keep it and build it yourself. The chance of you finding a heavily tuned car that will meet your standards is slim
