[Mk2] [Turbo] new wheels after refurb!

Post by doeboy »

well after much though and alot of effort here they are from when i bought them to now!

test fit

stripped down and the lips nitromorsed

all nitromorsed, i treated the wheels seven times and still not all the paint came off the centres!

Image
Image
Image

gave up on doing the centres myself and handed them over to a local company who shotblasted them and powdercoated them, i sent the lips off to a mate to be polished and have the curb rash taken out and in the mean time i had the labourious task of getting the paint off the wheels studs that hold the 3 peice wheels together.

there was 144 of them and i had to treat them all one by one 3 times with nitromors and a toothbrush to get the paint off!

that wasn't fun, but here are the fruits of my labour.

i think you'll agree the rear offsets are aggresive to say the least but it looks as tough as stallone in rocky 3!

hope you like!

beautiful wheels! :)

Get yourself some sealant for them, it will keep the muc at bay and means when you wash them all you will need is soapy water.

Poorboys Wheel Sealent is awesome, It works really well if you apply a couple of layers of a decent polish, AutoGlym SRP then coat that with a few layers of the sealent. Really brings them up and just makes cleaning much easier in the future 8)

Another question,

You don't have a side indicator? Does it get through an MOT ok?

with regards to the side indicators, i havent found them to be a issue in the mot.

and the wheels studs are a bit of a pain, it took me ages to clean up mine but it was better than buying new which would work out to nearly £150.

Surely those rear wheels (although very nice) are well outside of the arches & therefore illegal & an MOT fail.

great effort, wheels look great, are you using spacers to get that offset because they do look illegal for road use if not, :-k

really like them though

AFAIK the absolute letter of the MOT handbook is that the tyre tread pattern has to be within the arches... so if you stretched your tyres...

I would have thought the silver on black number plate was rather illegal too? :-k

Aprt from that, cracking job on the wheels and a lovely looking car. I had a very similar black cross-spokes/polished rims combo on my old black Capri and it is a good look. :thumleft:

Looks very nice mate, well done!

Just get some matching Yokohama Parada Spec 2's on the rear in a 10-20mm narrower widthand the wheels will be fine for the MOT. There are loads worse examples of this on the SXOC and various VW sites!
