Well the splitting section has now been painted, and the intake started to be put together.





Still no start up, testing or mot yet though...

I'm really hoping its going to be completed and ready for collection very very very shortly otherwise I'm completely stuffed and will need to buy another car to use as a daily driver

Air intake and its associated bracket worked on and bolted to the car. Intake not fitted to the throttle body as of yet though. Pics of progress:

The car was fired up and is running ...

However it running very rich as there isn't a fuel regulator as standard in the MR2 like there is in the Lexus. Peter is fitting one today to sort out that issue and is sorting and wrapping wires etc... to make it look more finished and cleaner

Still a few bits and bobs left like the fans, x4 wheel alignment etc... Before the dreaded MOT

Cone filter

Isn't there an air box you can use?

That engine swap video is amazing!! I wonder if Paul Woods employs the same crew to chew through his engine conversions as he works at a similar pace!

Yup it's a cone filter... I don't think that the Lexus one would fit and I've never had a cone one before so I've asked for Peter to fit one. I will live with it for a bit and see how I get on with it. I've heard mixed reviews about them, but if nothing else it should sound nice for a bit.

Whilst we are on the topic of air intakes, I keep looking at one eBay advert which would be a lovely upgrade for my cone filter but I just can't afford it at the moment

Well Peter has found a lovely genuine SARD FPR which he has fitted today. It needs some specific unions and joints which are currently on order, but that's certainly one problem solved



Well chuffed and its a lovely bit of good quality kit to add to the list
Its also one more step closer to completion and collection

Nice one Karl, its certainly getting there - the sards a nice bit of kit - I have one on my turbo and waiting for the right fittings is well worth it - I rigged mine in with ebay odds and sods to start with and it leaked more than a tbars roof!!!! all sorted with the right fittings and has lived on the car quite happily for the last six years or so.

I'm loving the FPR, and completely agree that if its worth doing its worth doing with the right fittings otherwise it will end up more of an issue than a solution. They have now turned up and been fitted


Well the car has also now rolled out of the garage under its own steam



And the new engine has seen light



It's looking cracking
Peters sorting out a few bits and bobs on it including a slight engine hesitation before the impending MOT but so far so good. The wiring is definitely looking a lot cleaner and tidier

Engine hesitation is still there, but its still being worked on. All the engine wires have now been tidied up. An over-ride switch has been plumbed into the centre console box for the engine lid fans which are now working. The wiring for these has been covered in conduit to look neater and protect them:



A temperature gauge is being fitted somewhere in the engine as the temperature gauge on the Lexus was driven by canbus data line from the ECU so I currently don't have one

The car is then due to be MOTd shortly, then a few finishing bits, odo reset, x4 wheel alignment etc...

I've got some mirrors on the way to me... Probably the only exterior bodywork that I would change. They are rare, super light fibreglass ones - so rare in fact that everyone is struggling to ID them, although they do seem very similar to Bomex type 2 ones.

Currently not sure if to fit them or sell them on again. If I do fit them I then don't know if I should keep them black or spray them to match the car.. Decisions decisions

I don't think so - they having markings on the back but it's so clogged up with paint its impossible to read unfortunately. Current theory is that they are Abflug wingmirrors but I can't find a photo of the body kit close enough to make sure

If you fit those mirrors deffo body colour of the car. I personally do like the standard mirrors though.
