That's also all you need to do with the AW11 timing belt tentioner. It works fine with the bit that the spring latches onto too. Tom only modified his trial one as he was being a bit ott

Incorrect.

It's totally impossible to get either a 14mm ring spanner or a 14mm 1/4" drive socket in to tighten it up if you don't modify it. Yes you could drop the engine down everytime to get at it, but there's no way I'm doing that!

In fact I've just taken it off again to remove some more of the inner race extension because it's really getting on my nerves  Look how rusty it's gone in just a few weeks!

I meant to post this before. For anyone running a Fensport idler pulley, this is what you need to carry in your "Fensport Emergency Repair Kit":

Image

14mm 1/4" Drive Socket (must be 1/4" drive - anything bigger will not fit)
1/4" Drive rachet
2 off 1/4" drive extensions (you need two so you can reach the adjuster mechanism)
A spare Ford Zetec timing belt idler
A spare belt

And that's it. You don't even need a jack because you can reach to undo the pulley. I keep this in the froot on a magnetic tray so that even if I have stupidly left my little tool kit at home I can always replace the idler pulley on the road.

Camry idler is 62mm diameter (choc = 60)

40mm deep (wide?) (choc = 29)

Mounting hole = 12mm diameter (choc = 10)

As Paul says, you need about 4mm of washers behind the Camry idler, as the mounting is recessed by 3mm (choc one is proud by 1.5mm)

The Camry idler is very solid looking, and also benefits from having a 30mm diameter recess for the socket, as opposed to the choc one having only 21mm: makes socket access easier....... :D
