As I said in a previous reply, my VIN ends in 00011874 and it was registered 15 March 1985, two days after they went on sale in UK.

I know there are models out there with much earlier VINs but I believe they are imports and not UK spec models.

As it is only 21 months until the Silver Jubilee of the introduction of the MR2 into UK, it would be nice to use that time to see if we could trace all the remaining MK1a MR2s and try to arange a get together on 13 March 2010. Does anyone know if DVLA will supply this sort of information?

Brilliant idea 8) :thumleft:

But I think it could be a good excuse for an all marque MR2 meeting as the date I think is quite significant to all :thumleft:
Althought it would be good to note that the 13th is a Friday, so perhaps the weeknd would be better?

Is that down to superstious or practical reasons Garrick?

My MK1 has a chassis number ending 11846 making it one of the early UK cars - and still going strong - and first registered on the Isle of Wight! Interesting to note from the vehicle search that the number plate 'MR2' is registered on an 1961 Rolls Royce!

Just resurrecting this topic, I co-own 0009040, still in Original Sherwood toning and without sills etc, currently gong through a slow restoration in the NE.

We found it in a barn in Cornwall back in 2003 :!: , tin top, air-con and with Yellow/black seats with a red triangle on the headrests, apparently original but don-t have much info on them or what they were supposed to represent.

This one was imported from Japan by a national who didn`t want to leave it behind, resumed life in London and gradualy made it`s way west to where we found it.

Ryan,

Where abouts in the NE ( North East ) is REALM being restored, wouldn't mind seeing it again if it's local.

Hey Mike

Gary has it (moved from the NW, long story!) but I don't think much has been done to it yet. I know that the engine from my black one will be going into it some day.

Will PM you with his contact number.

Ebay of course  I wanted a tin top for a 3sgte convertion.
It was quite a funny story

The Seller
He could have represented England in a talking contest.

He would ask 3 questions in one sentance,
before you could answer 1, he would ask 3 more

When I went into the house to sign the paper work,
(I thought I would never get out).

The engine was only firing on 3 cylllinders -
My friend Sy (Sysanguinary) managed to fix that by changng plugs, HT leads, Dissy and rotary arm.

I still hadn`t managed to write my address on the paper work

The Car
Only done 85,000 miles
The guy has spent over £3000 on:-
2 new front wings
New sills on both sides
New rear arches and front & rear corner pieces on both sides
New brakes, disks, calipers and complete piping
1b side skirts
The car already had a full respray
and wheel referb - Strange Rays 4 spoke front 5 spoke back

The main problem now was,
the engine over heating.

The journey Home
we filled Rummy up with water and set off.

less than 5 miles
Temp getting to the end of red,
Pulled over managed to get some water in
and limped to the nearest services.

Had some Lunch whilst Rummy cooled down.
Removed Thermastat, filled with water
Set Off Again

less than 5 miles
engine cut out,
now pouring out water and Head Gasket totally gone
Cooled down quite quickly though

Set Off Again
Decided to get off motoway at Saddleworth
So foot to the floor, go as fast as possible
Then coast if it cuts out agin.
Made it just
cut out as came off the motorway
so pulled up under the Bridge

The problem was this time it took about an hour,
for Rummy to cool down enough to start again

We were running out of water now
and had to fill our bottles from puddles
Set off again

Biggest shock of the day
made it all the way back to Sys.

Hi Tommy,
Have you been in hiding, (not seen a hint of sarcasm for ages  )

For Rummy,
you are doing the white 3 pin stickers for all round,
Toyota for the bonnet,
Turbocharger & MR2 for the boot :thumleft:

The sills well arches are this one
