Happy man, idle rough obviously as so may things fiddled but I can't let her run for more then 30secs as I've got to put coolant in now

Thanks everyone for suggestions, off to have a chat with a man about some work now!!

Ive spent a week roughly 2 - 3hours a night working through every area of the engine.

On plus side it should be very reliable now :D

Good to hear it's sorted \:D/

May want to get a timing light on it and just check the distributor is lined up correctly.

I agree - however as the diagnostic port isn't in the loom any more what can be done to replicate the te1 to e1 bridge out? ( Its going to be the next question for sure I think )

I'm happy to say I've been quite clever. All engine management, fuel pump, coil, igniter and diagnosis port are wired just like an original MR2, this includes the rear fusebox and relays.

I did this because it would allow me to use the mr2 manuals still for faults :thumleft:

Also all the wiring for lights etc.... Although one single fusebox at the front, is using original colour matching allowing easy diagnosis of other system issues.

Are the 1991 wiring manuals still on-line, I have them electronic somewhere and printed out but unable to post up. The password for them on-line used to be "harvey".

Did the colours change significantly between revisions -I know the 1991 manuals helped me a good few times and way better than nothing!!!!! Perhaps as well, might not be a bad idea if you can get a second hand loom part with the connector and cover, or wire up a cpl of test ports plus a lamp -great post from peter to read CEL flashes without a cluster IMO. You can read so much off the stock ECU it makes it so much easier.

Maybe thinking too much and purely for my own curiosity but in kit cars without the cluster but a stock ECU, how do you stop a CEL without feedback to the ECU from the speedo once the car is moving -or do you just do it with the aftermarket gauge? Or just ignore it?

...useless comment but I was going to say you might be totally out on timing and check the marks. Sounded a bit like I had on a different car once after I had the head -off and forgot to account for the tension in the cam belt as it was tensioned (plus somehow I was a tooth or two out).

There are a few different colours from the manual to the REV2 but not may that I have found.

I have heard of this feedback from the cluster but haven't looked into it yet, If I can wire it so it can do it...great! If not ill ignore it.
