mines a rev1 turbo, how ever upon opening my engine cover i have a black shroud with only a small opening to let air out/in.

i have been trying with out the latch down on my engine cover but think it was mainly because i was lazy to close it properly, but it may have made a difference

Unless you have the enclosed TOM'S air filter that the TOM'S scoop was intended for dont bother. Toyota did a good job with the MR2, keeping engine temps down and feeding enough air to a mid-engined car is always a challenge especially when the engine is turbo charged. The design of the SW20 dictates the direction of travel airflow takes through the engine, merely sticking one (or 2) of these scoops on negates the hard work of the designers.
There are plenty of BIG power tubbies out there that have found the standard side sccops provide more than enough air to feed the engine.

Also, whilst it is purely a matter of personal taste, I think they spoil the lines of what is generally accepted as a very good looking car in standard guise.

2nd to taping up the vents in the engine lid, scoops are the best way to send your engine bay temps sky high.

Do they really?

Airflow through the engine bay travels in a vertical direction. The area behind the rear window creates a low pressure area, drawing air up through the vents in the engine lid.

The original TOMS scoop fed a sealed induction system (which is why a right hand scoop never actually existed). So cooling air still travelled upwards though the engine bay, whilst cool induction air when down the scoop into the engine. The engine bay air and induction air never met.

Putting a scoop on without a sealed induction system results in the downward travelling air hitting the upward travelling air head on. Result is stalled air in your engine bay.

Awesome, I did good creating my partition in there, think I may revise it to be more extreme and good looking if I get the engine fixed :thumleft:

tbh, I only did it as I thought all the air from the scoop wouldn't hit the filter and go out the engine lid.

Never knew it would mice around in there with the warm air.

If you are handy with bodywork I know that there is a *slightly* damaged one on the M6 from when mine decided to part company with my Tubby recently......

Made a hell of a noise when the fibreglass ripped

And this isnt a joke.... had it on for 5+years so make sure you check it periodically, think mine had been weakened by people leaning into my engine bay over the side :-k

Damn, just bought one of these as I thought it would improve my air flow. Are there any instances where it is better? Could I butcher my airbox resonator to make my intake 'enclosed' or should I just not bother fitting it?
