A lot of track day organisers use airfields for trackdays. The "circuit" is done on one or more runways layed out in cones. Hence not a proper track.

There is also a false sense of security on airfields days, but we have seen far more serious incidents on airfield days than on proper circuits. More car-to-roof type incidents because a lot of track dayers push much harder thinking there's nothing to hit, but wheels can dig into soft verges much easier on airfields if the car drifts wide on a corner. Airfields are also very flat, featureless and generally very boring to drive with few challenges.

I agree. The last time I went to Colerne, I got my car up on two wheels going through the fast sweeping bend - 120mph flat and then a slight dip meant the tyres dug in on the tarmac and the inside wheels lifted. Not a nice feeling at that speed!

I had been taking it quicker and quicker and on that time didnt even lift, as there is so much space your brain dosnt always engage and think danger!
