Had a play with one on sunday from a 5mph rolling start, only gained about 2 feet on him, but was a pretty even match up to 60. Speed limit didn't allow us to compare third gear, but by the way he was killing the merc he was playing with before hand I don't think I'd have come off too well!

Im assuming now that you mean the new one as a rev3 will see off an older one with some mods easily. Even my Rev2 can.

Me being the "same bloke" who says negative things about MR2's?

How about taking a look in my garage...

Unlike some of the people on here, I've had my MR2 for nearly 5 YEARS. Loved it, spent thousands on it etc etc. I wanted once since I was a kid. The difference is, I'm not blinded by a bit of speed. Sure, I've torn past E46 M3's, I've dismantled a couple of E36 Evo's at the pod.

Which would I have if I had to chose (and money wasnt an object) M3 and many other "slower" cars.

I love the MR2 because of the way it looks and that it can be made to go fast. And also that it's supremely reliable. That doesnt make it a great car that's better than anything it overtakes.

Dont hate me because I have a grip in reality. This place is starting to remind me of Clio Sport lately where people actually believe their cars the best cars on the road.

Dear `samebloke` chill out mate I don`t hate anybody, and when on any of my posts have I ever claimed that the `2` is a `better` car , what I do is write about is my driving experiences , should I not tell it how it is , should I say a slower car is faster than it is just because it costs the earth . When , and if my little japcar gets whooped I will be posting that experience with the same honesty . My last car was a Mitsi GTO mr twin turbo , got whooped by a `2` , the car before that was a 911 turbo , got whooped by `2` so now I have a `2` and it whoops them , it owes me 14 grand , and in my humble opinion is more fun than the pair of them , so chill out and just once in a while sing the praises of the great little `2`, no offence meant Matt I just say it like it is . 8-[

People are making some pretty sarky remarks on here, like you, I call it as I see it.

If some one tuned a Nova up and it went flyin past you, or any one else making comments on here, would you then think the Nova was the better car?

Sorry when I said like you I meant I say it like you say it, not saying you were making sarky remarks.

I just get the feeling many people on here are starting to believe the MR2's are the best cars out there. There's plenty of beasts out there that will make mince meat of a 2 at the end of the day.

I've seen 1980's Cossie's with 700+ bhp that do 190+ mph
There's plenty of Evo's and Scoobies about 500+ bhp
Supra's and Skylines with upto and sometimes over 1k bhp

Hate to say it, but in the grand scheme of things, the tubby is pretty small fry IMO. It's only really been in the last 2 years that people such as yourself, with 500+ bhp have actually come along. When I bought mine, 350bhp was actually a big deal in a 2. Seems to be the min target for some people these days.

They are great cars for the reasons I listed above, but if I went zooming past a Ferarri I woulnt think "must mean my cars better"
It would be more a long the lines of "haha but I would still rather have a Ferarri" lol.

Perhaps I'm getting old, but I just find the screaming turbo behind my ear, massive noise from the huge exhaust, super stiff suspension etc all bolted to my car annoying these days.

I would actually quite like something fairly quick with a lot less drama.

Know what you mean , can`t hear the radio in mine or hold a conversation , when I drive to Bristol to see my son I`m so shook up I can`t walk for 10 mins lol , but the huge smile on my face stays for hours , my son has a Mitsi Legnum and when he got in my car he could`nt believe how noisy and uncomfortable it was , I just love the wolf in sheeps clothing syndrome though , so Matt we will agree to differ on some points . :thumleft:

I've been there mate, not as powerful as yours but it is a bug you get. Being thrown into your seat and having your organs compress against the base of your spine is a buzz.

I love the look on my passengers faces when I nail it for the first time.

I just want something a little more civilised these days and I'm only 27

I have to walk past my mates house on the way home and see his 350Z on his drive. It just looks better everytime I walk past it. Yet my tubby would destroy it.

What I would ideally like is a car that makes no noise inside the cabin with the windows up, returns 30+ mpg when driving nicely but pulls the skin off your face (in silence still) when you feel the need for it.

Sadly, the 2 just doesnt match any of that, even standard that turbo can be bloody annoying.

That's why I like things like M5's and RS6's, they look a bit cack but in terms of driving, they do what I want pretty well (except 30 mpg lol)

One day I'll buy a lottery ticket.

Although in fairness, if I won multiple millions I'd be looking at something a little more like this I reckon.

Love those things - but £350k 8-[

It's the noise they make (not in the car hopefully) that does it for me.
Properly weak at the knees stuff.

And the tech 2, 650 bhp rwd yet has more grip than most 4wd cars, air brake and the calipers have more pots than a hippy convention.

I'm sure theres another "special" version with well over 700bhp as well which will be putting it close to the late 2's to 60

And, even though it has a Merc badge - it's made by McLaren as far as I'm aware at their factory :thumleft:
