rev 3 turbo vrs M5 V10

Post by Bry »

BMW glued to my bumper whilst going down the fast lane of the motorway, I thought I'd floor it to shake off this idiot in his diesel BMW only to hear this screaming noise as he flew past me on the inside lane, which is when I realised it was an M5  What a lovely sound it made too as it disappeared off into the distance =P~

How refreshing!

I was expecting "I showed him what my seriously modified car could do to a bog standard 2 tonne saloon" story.

I saw one of these gunning it on the M25 once. I was doing a sensible(ish) speed in the fast lane, he was weaving through traffic like he'd stolen it!

I tell it like it is, I reckon even it was something like a 530d I would have struggled

Those 530d's have shed loads of torque iirc. Once moving i bet they can really push on.

Naaa, I had a go against a 330d (e46), and it wasnt a problem, and you must be running similar power to me.

Them M5s are rapid though, once rolling they fly, even the last shape ones are really quick.

Once rolling? Dont they hit 60 in less than 5 seconds? For a 2 tonne saloon that's seriously fast.

Yeah but theres plenty of MR2s that can do that. Once rolling they are really quick, as its already got that 2 tons moving!

I've read that about 3 times and gotten more and more cross eyed each time.

What do you mean?

How refreshing, same guy trawling through the driving experiences, only to point out that MR2s are rubbish and that we can't have possibly beat something more expensive on the road..

I've never said an mr2 can't beat more expensive exotic cars. What i've said is, it doesn't make them better cars.

They are even quicker once rolling. MR2s are fast off the mark cos of the traction, but if you came up againts one while already doing 50mph, they would accelerate much quicker.

BMW's are great cars, but are right heavy beasts... !! I think I can go as far as the pace of the earlier M5's being fairly equal to a Rev 3 turbo having seen them go at a variations of speeds.

Cheap cars now the early models... even considering one if they we'ren't down to single numbers on mpgs !!

Yea, the older ones are about on par with even a rev2 with mods to be fair. Suprisingly, I thought I would have it bottom end and then the M5 would pull from me top end, but it was the complete reverse. Couldn't get past him until around 90 then it was game over for the M5. Shocked me, but just goes to show much much the little MR2 with a CT20 pulls top end. New one would be a different story though for mildly modded 2s

Would be interested to see your motor down at TOTB this year. You already in the team or planning on going?
