looking at the figures, the 2.0 in the st seems like a really good engine
might only be 150 but 150 of torque too, thats more than any vtec and more than my old rover 2.0 turbo diesel

I had one of these a while ago on an 05 plate. It was fairly slow to be honest when it was standard, but with some Cosworth goodies on it was a little flying machine. But whatever the power output, it is still a fwd shopping cart :-) Heres a pic of it on the front of the SToc stand in summer 2006 at the Ford Fair:

FOUR HUNDRED QUID!!! BARGAIN!!
I thought they went for far more than that!

My mates Fez ST was a perfectly nice place to be and with Ford discount cost £10k brand new. NOTHING (new) could touch it at that price.

Common myth. Vtecs often have very good torque for their displacement and being N/A, they just dont have much displacement.

And also the BHP is grossly higher than the torque.
Example being that the Fiesta is 150bhp and 150lb of torque.
A Civic Type R is 200bhp and 145lb torque.
I would guess a lot of this is to do with the redline, am I correct in thinking torque tails off at about 5k but a V-tec goes until 9k?
So at about 5k the V-tec could well be making almost identical figures to the Fiesta...

A 1.6 VTEC engine is quicker than a Fiesta ST 2.0, oh yeah, and more reliable because its jap!

Nothing wrong with Ford at all, no way on earth does the word Ford and Fail belong together, especially if you throw in Cosworth.

They still produce decent cars, the Focus albeit a bit plasticy is a great car, handles extremely well - especially the RS.

BUT! I dont like the Fiesta ST at all, a guy at work bought one kept it 2 months then sold it and bought a mint modded Mk1 VW Golf Caddy (which had been converted into a kind of estate, slammed and ran on real nice deep dish alloys) it was well nice until he smashed into the back of a car at a roundabout (p***ing about with his cd player). ](*,)

Three words though, front heated windscreen!

Well the Fiesta actually only makes 140lb to the CTRs 145lb, but yeah due to the vtec cam timing and lift it continues to make this torque past 6000rpm which equals more bhp.

But still, the difference between torque and BHP isnt as wide as the V-Tec which is why, I believe, people assume V-Tecs "dont make much torque"
Kind of an illusion if that makes sense.

Heated screens are one of the single best inventions ever, if I ever get a Ford it will be something I will HAVE to have on it. Although in time they get a little poor and you end up with stripes. Still better than getting the scraper out of turning the heaters on full blast!

Ford have had these screens for nearly 20 years but few other manufacturers have followed suit...always made me wonder if they did an exclusive deal with whoever makes them...Triplex?
