[Mk2] [Turbo] Engine damper

Post by JJ »

Team,

Anyone got any suggestions ??!! I've seen one on nengun, but also looks a little salty on the pocket ! :?

I'm getting tired of pulling my HKS stainless manifold off and welding it up !!! :-k

I've even thought about welding an old Bilstein shocker in to reduce the rockin effect on our engines !

now then jj. you decided to get that blue shed of yours up and running again :D

just go for solid mounts or just create a nice peice of bar that bolts to teh bottom of the gearbox/engine and that bolts to the fron engine mount.

we had a car in that has a damper that works in the same way.

il just put solid mounts into a 3sgte starlet ep82 we just built.

whole car vibrates like a b1tch tho so not too nice as a daily driver lol

As above Mr Lane, get a bar knocked up from engine to car/mount, but pepare for vibration city! lol
I've just fitted a damper to mine (presume the same as the Nengun one you saw) and can tell difference (also hear it working as it bolts to strut brace mount behind my head! lol)

Great .. another lost post !! Jees ! :(

Anyway... I'll write it again in brief !

Lee .. like the idea of it mounted down below.. I'll have a nosy about at damper sizes....

Mines never been off the road .. well till christmas eve..... just had to take it easy as its been overheating when i kicked it..... still made me grin quite a bit with the way it goes....fixed it now... water pump issues .. pulled the head and the block.. got the head skimmed, block decked.. not cut out for this any more !! Will be running quicker too !!

Steve, you havent got enough mods if you can fit an engine damper to the top of your engine !! I can't even see the floor in my compact bay ! :clown:

Vibrations you say ??!! :pale:

Ally bar. Rose joint in each end mounted to the gearbox, and front engine mount. One of the rose joints/ends is LH threaded.

Seem to remember the bar being hallow.

Hey JJ,

Solid bushes front and back will really help

Would it not be worth robbing a sports bike of its steering damper? Small compact and should take the shock movement out of the engine rock - pretty sure alot of the aftermarket kits are basically just that anyway.

Dont like the idea of solid mounting a bar betwen the engine and the chassis - eventually something will break.

Ha, more room than ever now with IC in boot, could hide a small kid in the gap, sure I can find something to fill it though in good time!

Good idea on bike steering damper, just knock up a couple of mounts for it & jobs a good 'un!

You could just buy a better exhaust manifold JJ....No matter how many dampers you fit, it gunna crack :-k :eye:

Its a blinkin HKS 2mm+ gauge stainless manifold.... Guess the problem could be the stainless cocktail !! Might have something to do with all that heat wrap I've got in there to stop the engine lid from catching fire !?! Hmmm

This is a steering damper for a land rover discovery... think theres enough resistance in bolting this to the bottom of the gearbox and chassis of the car ??!! Still looking around for adjustable ones if I can find one !! :D

That crap Extreme boost one I had was though John. It had more braces than people with bad teeth and it still cracked everytime I used it in anger. Just an idea my old northern warrior :thumleft:

Thanks for your susggestions chirs...though would involve quite a bit of rework to stick it back onto the cast manifold !! I like the top mounted turbo, it allows me to retain my air con !!

I do still think the answer is to reduce the engine movement, the top mounted turbo on mine will just increase the stress in the manifold as its further away from the fulcrum point. HHmmmm :-k

im not too sure i like the sound of having a solid bar from the engine to the mount, wouldn't this create the casings to crack?

would a steering dampner from a bike be upto the job?

JJ just a suggestion not sure if its up tp the job.

you just want something for the shock right and not to limit movement or do you need both.

how about a gas boot ram from a car with a big old tailgate??? they come in all sizes.

only problem is most are gas filled and not too good with heat :)

I use solid mounts, a torque damper like Any has shown in his post and a top damper like the one that was for sale a few days back... im sure you put a reply up on it JJ?

That stopped my manifold from cracking :thumleft:
