Are you talking about the cheap turbochargers(i.e. the part, not the car) that are often for sale on eBay?

the chap may be talking about the difference between the USDM MR2 turbochargers and the JDM turbochargers the USDM ones have steel shafts. Im pretty sure on the EMS powered forums they were talking about moving to the JDM ones as they have quicker spool up times. :-k

baktasht may be able to shed some light on this

If you're talking about the Chinese made copycat turbos, they're complete garbage.

If you're talking about USDM versus JDM OEM CT26/CT20b MR2 turbos, there's a few different ones

USDM steel turbine CT26: Spools the slowest and makes the least power. Maxes out on power around 210-225rwhp with supporting mods. Boost starts to drop off around 4500-5k RPM and drops to around 9-11psi by redline

JDM steel turbine CT26: identical to the one above

JDM ceramic turbine CT26: same compressor as above, spools much faster, and makes more top end power. Can hold boost till redline with a modified wastegate actuator. Maxes out on power around 240-255rwhp with supporting mods

JDM ceramic turbine CT20b: better compressor and turbine design than the CT26. Can hold boost till redline with a modifed wastegate actuator. Maxes out on power around 280-325rwhp with supporting mods.

I've also seen one CT20b with a steel turbine. I'm not sure if this was a rebuild or if Toyota actually made a run of them with steel turbines.

if you are talking about the JDM cheapo turbos sold on ebay, theres an interesting topic where someone has bought one to see what its like, pretty much for a laugh.

Bare in mind most of these figures are asuming lots of boost, race gas and increased timing.
Guys on pump gas, sensible boost and stock timing are not hitting those figures over here.
