[Mk2] [Turbo] Uprated gear box, Drag boxes

Post by royashmr2 »

Happy new year everyone,

I was hoping somebody had some info on air shift boxes or drag spec sequential box with strong gears.

I was thinking of putting custom dog cut years in mine with a sequential skyline shifter modded to fit.

Anybody heard or seen anything done?

Is there nothing already on the market for the Celica? I would think it would be easier to adapt one of them. :-k

Yeah the MR gear box is an illusive beast thats for sure. Has anyone actually killed a gearbox on the strip to date?

Maybe it would be worth looking at getting someone to make something specific to your requirements? Would be top dollar obviously, but seems the more readily available way. Doesn't hurt to get a quote... unless you fall of your chair when they tell you how much

Know what you mean.

I spoke to quaife and prices of around 15k for a custom sequential box. Sam at TDI said don't do it as it wouldn't be as strong at the box thats in it. Just wanna get some times down a bit. Don't mind speding some money but not 15k if it's no good!

John bradshaw runs a Jerico 5 speed gearbox with air shifter in his skyline. I'll have a look at some of there stuff

I have been looking for a number of years and find Fensport are the only ones I could find that do anything. 4K for the full box.

4k on something I don't think will help. Just doen't seem the right way to go for drag racing?

I faxed Jerico last night as they don't seem to have an email. I'll see if they even reply to me.

What have you broken in your box Roy?

Mine let go at york on its first run.
TOTB 2010 Rwd top speed, 1/4 and shootout winner.
10.7@142 on R888 street tyres, 10.3@134mph on slicks,
9's on slicks to come, with a clean full throttle pass! Goal of 0-150mph in a 1/4 of a mile....

Looks nice. Might be worth buying for the track car. I'll ask him how much he wants

I haven't broken anything get. Just want some faster gear changes. Box is holding well. Most people break the selector so I put brand new ones from toyota in last year.

What went on urs?

The Altezza 'box is for an FR car, no good for the east-west of an MR2 unless you wanted 1-wheel drive.

Up the power rather than spending thousands on the 'box.

Good point. Never thought about that.

I've got 680hp already. Finding it hard to keep the engine together

C-one do/did an uprated gearset, a mate has just picked one up used from japan. it looks like shorter ratios 1-4 and standard 5th. this particular one is for his celica, but arent the gears/cogs etc the same?? i'm assuming the actual gears are the same??
