[Mk2] [Turbo] strange knocking

as said above my rev 2 turbo is constantly knocking from the front.(worse over speed bumps and potholes)just took the front wheel of and where the track rod end bolts to the steering rack and the hub you can twist it quite freely and can hear a slight knock when you do so.is this normal or shudent you be abel to move it?thanks for any help :thumleft:

the track rod end should twist back and forth a little but should not knock.
have a tug on you drop links, they knock like hell when they go

i have just had them replaced as i thought they were at fault.

have you had a look under the cap on your top mounts? they could be knackard

had my top mounts replaced not so long ago. Knocking gone :D

ill have a look tomorrow.how can u tell if there nackered?and wheres the best place to get them from.

i have replaced 3 on the front in asmany years and the front O/S is on its way out again ](*,)
they will be rusty under the cap and if the car is jacked up you will see and feal the play when pulling the wheel up and down.

i get mine from toyota, think they are about £75

I took mine to my local kwik fit played a bit dumb. Told them i had a strange knocking noise. They lifted it up on the ramp so i could have a good look underneath. Some of them are considerate like that. Its worth a try :wink:

checked the top mounts today,they were loose.tightend them back up loads better but the knocking is still slightly there.because they were loose could that of caused damage to them?cheers

first thing id check is if there is anything lose in the frunk like wheel brase or jack.
then you want to be checking your droplinks havnt come lose, bottom ball joints,and shocks. if you stil cant find it try a garage.
