Turbo 4AGE Questions

Post by acexxx »

Hi everyone. Just a few questions and i'm sure you have heard this before. In order to turbo a N/A 4AGE what will I need and how much power will it produce on stock internals? Im going to get another standard engine to do this to as I use the car day to day. How much am I looking at all in? I know standard engines are going quite cheap. I would rather turbo a N/A engine and not convert to a different one or a 4AGZE. I know this sounds silly but I have my reasons!lol.

Advice would be great.

not as though i have tried it but in therory you should be able to run about 5-6psi on a stock engine. this would probably give you about 140-150bhp with a nice hike in torque too. for the money it will cost you though this isnt a very large gain. all the hardare and electronics you will need for this will cost the same if your using a standard engine or an uprated one. so it would make more sense to start with an engine that can take boost then you will be aking alot more power reliably.

Ok so what about a Supercharged engine? Can these handle the power better. The only problem will be the cost of one.

Yeah I was thinking that or a 20v. I just wanted t keep the originallity of the MK1 engine. I have heard that the 20v is a direct fit??? And looks similar to the original. Has anyone got a pic in a MK1?

If you want a turbo 4AGE, you would probably be better starting with a supercharger engine, or at least putting SC pistons in the 4AGE to allow a bit more boost.

The 20v is a direct fit on your existing engine mounts, you will need to sort out custom coolant pipes and i'd get a plug and play wiring harness made up.

In the US and austrailia there are loads of 4agte's based on N/a's

If you run an aftermarket ecu, 200hp is possible on std internals i've heard, its the fueling and spark that kills the pistons not the boost.

Check out the usa, and aus forums, but search first, the aus and usa forums get very nasty to new users who dont search

Well it's got lower compression pistons so that will help. An AE92/AE101 is a better option as they have a MAP sensor so can detect boost pressure. Theoretically you could bolt a turbo on and it should run fine.

Costwise if you DIY expect about 2-2.5K to do it depending on cost of 4AGZE.

If you were going to turbo a 4AGE reckon costwise 1-1.5K to get it up and running although you'd want to sort the suspension as well etc.

All 4AGE/GZE's are a direct fit. The 20v does need some additional work doing around the coolant pipes as they exit the head in the wrong place.

Tbh I don't think a 20v offers a great deal more than a GE.
