rev1 tubby just died :S

Post by hucky »

coming along the motorway in 4th i down geared due to speed and then accelorated as the motorway opened up. few mins later in 5th gear the car started to splutter a little, then as coming off the motorway it died. every time i tried to start engine i got nothng, sometimes it would tick over for a few seconds.

i remembered that when playing with my m8s fcd we had to reset the ecu every now and again while trying it, ive done this and tried it again 3 times. the 3rd time it worked.

to what i can see and what my boost guage is reading ide say the boost has not been turned up and i can not see a fcd anywhere near ecu...

anyone know what could have caused this???

my fault code is flashing - 2, 4, 3, 1

would this be a fault of 24/31 or 2 faults of 2/4 and 3/1?

I would say 24 & 31, both of which point to AFM faults. 24 is air intake temp sensor which is within the AFM on rev1/2, and 31 is the meter signal from the AFM. There are procedures for checking out your AFM with a meter in the BGB.

Out of interest, what procedure did you follow to reset the ECU? When reset properly the ECU will clear its error codes, so if you had reset it correctly you wouldn't have any errors from prior to the reset, only ones that have been generated afterwards.

right, sorted out this problem. reset ecu, been out and the car splutters really bad in 5 gear when accelorating.

i loose all power, accelorator dose nothing, the car splutters slowly to about 40mph, if i keep foot on the accelorator a little it will stay about this speed for a few mins and then work again.

i tried the fault fiding again and i just have a steady flashing light.

any ideas anyone???

first to 4th gear is good. can boost etc, just once ive bin into 5th i get the problems

my friend said my car idles a little high, its about 1k (still have jap clocks on if that makes a diff)

just taken my plugs out, my first plug, the one on passanger side nearest dissy is covered in oil. im thinking this could be the problem.

ive cleaned it up and refit the old plugs for now to see if the oil comes back. if it dose, anyone know where this would be coming from??

rocker cover fitted... their was 3 large splits in the gasket that also didnt look like their was any instant gasket round the rocker etc...

when tightening the rocker i started in the middle and worked my way out, did this a total of 4 times as it got its self a better seal.

ill go have a drive after ive cleaned up...

if ive done it properly, it is a very very easy job to do and i did this on my own.

i did how ever brake the none return valve on the reserc...

seems that changing the rocker cover gasket has done the job... just been out and after a few hours of letting it all set in, give it a good drive ;) ... all seems ok at the mo :D
