[Mk2] [NA] speedo not working

just had gear box replaced my speedo is electric replacement box was manual type garage said they changed speedo drives but still not working any thoughts please :(

im thinking they lied if you look from behind the car peer above the subframe and you can see the speedo drive in the gearbox mechanical will have a thick cable comming out electronic has a plug

will check tommorow but what they said was they took my electric one out of my box and fitted it to the old box can this be done

Surely they shouldnt be giving it you back when its still not working. Do you mean your replacement box is cable driven?

My main worry would be that you've just fitted an OLDER gearbox that the one you replaced! I hope it's ok!

They only had mechanical speedos on the earlier cars as far as I know (with the weaker synchros).

I think the speedo drive CAN be swapped over, but I've not tried it.

SPEEDO FAULT WAS DUE TO WEEK ALTERNATOR NEW ONE FITTED TODAY CAR OK EVERYTHING WORKS GEARBOX SMOOTH CHARGE FOR FITTING NEW ALTERNATOR 30 POUND O THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD PRICE
