Cracked mongoose exhaust

Post by Pete »

Has anyone ever had a problem with a mongoose exhaust cracking around the welds on the downpipe?

I've just had to have mine welded up, because it had 2 major cracks - one on each pipe. Is there anything that I need to check/can do to stop this happening again? Is there any bracing that could be missing etc..

Thanks
Pete

Hi, i have a magnex fitted top my car which has three support hangars fitted. Two are either side of the silencer and one midway of the system which attaches the pipe to the cross member next to the rear lower torque mount. Best thing you can do is get the car up on ramps and have a good check under there. Have a look at the two torque mounts if these are excessively cracked or perished these can allow the engine to move more than the system is designed to.
Theirs also a guy on here who sells these exhausts, jap spec performance im sure thats how hes known. so if theres any history of this he would know.
Hope this helps Colin

hey guys, never had any of the mongoose mk1 systems do this. so thats strange. there should be a mid clamp with a hanger attatched to ip to support the mid/front section. other than that theres not really any other braces to put on.

Do you have diagram of the hanger once fitted, or how it would fit to the car - or even a photo?

I can't seem to locate this bit looking under the car, which might be my problem.

Thanks

Take a look here at jimi lawsons site , http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/jimilawson/e ... haust.html he has a photo album for the magnex exhaust. There are acouple showing the centre mount, your mongoose should be similar if not the same.
Hope this helps colin

that is great, thanks Colin. I just can't make out where the hanger goes to?

I can see it clamps around the exhaust, then appears to extend upwards, how does this secure, and what to?

I think this is missing on mine so I need something that does the same job.

Pete, how much did it cost you to have your downpipe welded up? Mine's cracked after one of the mounts rusted through, leading to the backbox falling off and bouncing along the road for about 15ft. This has led to the downpipe cracking where it obviously twisted #-o

I'm not sure exactly how much it was for just that, I had a couple of other things sorted out at the same time.

I think it was about 1/2 hour labour though, so around £20.

If you look at the 3rd photo from top you can just make out the chassis mount, if yours is missing you should still see the 2 threaded holes. jap spec performance maybe able to help you with a new exhaust bracket.
