Mk1 superchargers come with an LSD box.
I really dont like the look of the mk1 or mk2 mx5, but thats just me. If I had the choice between a Ford KA and an MX5 I'd have the mazda purely for RWD lol Sorry just my opinion.

If I had to have a MX5 I'd be choosing a MK1.
What can I say, I'm a pop-up lover!
...and I'd have to be finding a hard top for it too!

MX5 is a good car, I had a new one for four months four years ago. Did enjoy the open top motoring, though my one had heated seats which really did help on the cold mornings.

I'm trying to persuade the Mrs to buy an mx5 - so I'd have best of both worlds

Re: mx5 mk2 or mr2 mk1
i used to have one, too underpowered and the grip is so immense that you won't get any sideways action unless it's wet, if you can get the BBR turbo version (1.6 only i think so don't quote)(optional extra believe it or not) you'll be laughing!!! great handling little car!!!
also, invest in a hardtop, they are great looking and the rear window is heated(so is the soft top window)!!

I have had both and although i loved the mk1's i have owned i have to say t hat the mx5 was more fun to drive. Just wasn't quite as comfy. I had the S limited 1.8 model.
Just my 2 pence worth.

I used to have an Eunos Roadster (MX5 mk1) - I loved every second of it!
It truly is an amazing car, mine was running carbs so was a little thirsty, but I'll definitely be getting another one as soon as possible (I'm thinking ITB's or supercharger this time around...)
Here she is being treated well by the new owner:

my other half has a mk2.5 mx-5 (just fitted the hardtop for winter - brrrr chilly)
if I was going to get a mx-5 I would go for a mk1 or mk2 but not the mk2.5
mainly as the 2.5 has less leg room and a higher setaing position.. and i'm tall
the last of the mk1 seem great as they stuck ever option on them..
also I think mx-5 drive nicer than mr2 - only just though

Re: mx5 mk2 or mr2 mk1
I test drove one about a month ago and I was really disappointed. It was slow really slow and it handled really badly. The seller imported it and it had Tein Coilovers on 17s and it was shocking. It was also a really early mk1 so it was a 1.6. I prefer my mk1 but I suppose if I drove a better example it would have helped. Plus MX5s are 10 a penny. U don't see a lot of MK1s.

It handled like that because it was on 17's, and probably wasnt set up properly.
Lightweight 14's, 15's max
Re: mx5 mk2 or mr2 mk1
Must admit I was looking at buying an early MX5 a couple of years ago - but found the interior so tacky and horrible that it put me right off. Much cheaper plastic than even the MR2.

14"/15"s are required for MX5s. Also, the UK versions of the mk1 were down on power from the Jap versions.
When I get another one I will definitely be FI'ing it to give it the oomph it should have had from the factory...

It was nice looking though. Im not putting people off it was just the dodgy example I drove. It wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding!
Re: mx5 mk2 or mr2 mk1
as good as they are they just aint mid engined . mk1 mr2 every time mid engined no power steering class . barring any rust issues that is
mx5 or mk1
some good comments there, i do like my mr2 mk1 it has just turned 53k and is simply is immaculate, i will be selling sometime next year and buying mx5 mk2 i do like the way they look dropped on 15" deep dish alloys. also prefer them with hardtop than soft.
