[Mk2] [Turbo] Intake temperatures

Post by dave_f »

Hi guys, this is one for those of you who have air intake temperature sensors, or have had dyno runs with intake temperature data,

Im after what sort of temps you guys get when boosting. Im ideally looking for some dyno data of a typical run, so an air intake temperature graph. If you could help me out that would be great, also tell me what setup your running, chargecooler, turbo etc.

Cheers guys

On which turbo at what boost, makes a big difference.

Either ct26 or ct20, stock boost upto maximum safe boost depending on cooling setup.

rev3 turbo, std intake, std intercooler, 16psi EBC on the road. Just under 80degC under boost, for a er long time WOT

Normally 15degC above ambient cause how long on the road are you actually on boost? I've seen 4degC ;) Was a bloody cold day, also seen 45degC cruise temps which dipped under boost conditions.

Measurement - K Type Thermocouple
position: at throttle plate
accuracy: better than most ;)

yup, seen 85degC+ sitting in traffic doing zero mph. Seen 140degC on the dyno, the guy backed off the loud pedal pretty quick lol

On the road though it's not really an issue as I'm never on WOT for any real period of time.

nope it was fine apparently but er power wasn't too good. Oddly enough the next time they paid more attention to the temps.

Thanks for the inuput guys, sorry to be so vague but ideally im looking for a dyno graph or figures of air intake temperatures during a dyno run. Or a general idea of what one would look like.

I dont mind whatever setup people have got.

On my mx5 I have bucket loads of log files for AIT whilst on road doing pulls foot to the floor in every gear, but I suspect a big front mount intercooler works better than the MR2 side mount and the turbos a much more efficient item so doesn't heat the air up in the first place.

taken on a static dyno so the figures are not the best but you can use it as worse case. T3 is intake temp P3 is boost in psi

later one with mbc

nope fair not. Wish I could get one for an on road pull, then you'd see the stock intercooler actually working
