Replacement engine from prestige_partz

Post by MRTWO »

following my recent blown gasket I'm giving some thought to getting a replacement low mileage engine from ebay or elsewhere, and then I can use the existing one to pull apart and learn where everything is with the eventual aim to refurb it and keep it as a spare

does anyone have any comments on this particular idea/engine or the seller prestige_partz or indeed elsewhere to source a low mileage engine?

thanks :)

Having a running spare engine will take the time pressure off getting your existing one fixed - make sure its the same as the one you have ( i.e. 1a or 1b/redtop or bluetop ) as that will make the swap easier as all the sensors etc. will be the same

Make sure you read the small print carefully - that one on ebay is exchange and you'll be charged 25% on top if you don't send your old one back, plus the warranty will be invalidated! Bit odd that they'd insist on an exchange when these engines are supposedly sourced from Japan and not reconditioned.

I would not buy from that seller!

I ordered 2 4agze clips from them oct 2007, they were then called nippon spares bassed in essex, after lies, ignoring me, etc etc etc etc etc, in september 2008 I got told they were in and they have now changed company name to Mr engine, I asked if they were complete clips, they said, eeerrrrrr, dont know, but they are in, so I drove up to them, and made them open the crates, guess what they werent. I was told that I can buy an aftermarket ecu and that will be fine (even though I ordered a complete clip). I asked for a refund, they all walked off, emptying their warehouse and locking themselves behing their security door.

1.5hours later (after I started opening all the crates in the warehouse  , they came down and refunded me.

Also they send the old engines to the middle east to be rebuilt.

I am not the only person to have problmes with them, I know of at least 2 other people who have ahd problems.

This is their website
http://www.mrengine.net/index.asp

BUT.....

I did buy an engine off them 2 years ago, and never had a problme, and it was sweet as a nut. I think since their buy out they have gone to poo.

well thats that then! :D thanks!

I've not heard the term "clip" before so please let me know what a complete clip is please

I've also now been told about http://www.apiengines.com as a source but to be honest, I'm still in two minds of whether a skim and a new gasket will bring my engine back to life with no further problems, or whether its worth going the way of a replacement engine. I guess we can't tell about my engine until its opened up but by then its already cost me quite a bit.

YOu could always grab a second hand engine from paul woods (I think he charges postage only) an then rebuild at your lesuire.

If kev is doing your H/g then it will be fine :thumleft:

I'd agree that if they are the company that used to be nippon spares avoid them.

I once bought a gearbox off them (quite a few years ago), was meant to be low milage and so I didn't mind paying a little more.

When it turned up there was no way it was low milage and not only that it wasn't even from a mk1 it was from a corolla. I decided not to use it in the end and so its now still lying around as scrap. I wouldn't trust a thing they say.

Nippon Spares. I had a 7MGE and a 7MGTE off them about 5 years ago used to be run by one arabic family but then the old man gave it over to his sons and nephews and all the quality and professionalism went straight out of the company.

shame really

I called api engines today but they're not stocking 4age's lately, or the foreseaable future as, aparantly, they can't get engines of the quality they prefer

anywhere else to get a ready-to-go low mileage engine?

To be honest, low mileage at this vintage of engine dooes not equate to any major advantage IMO.

Either rebuild to new specs, or just use any other half decent one that can preferably be heard running?

My car came with a spare engine, I've got the receipt so will see where that came from when I get home.

 GBP 550 for a unheard running engine perhaps I should of charged more for my 4age with almost FSH (missed 1 stamp) with only 90k on clock and the buyer seen/heard it running I sold that for GBP150.
